Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO) for Asia-Pacific is a part of the United Nations system that focuses on sustainable development initiatives across the region. The DCO was established following the United Nations General Assembly's Resolution A/RES/72/279, which aimed to enhance the coordination of development efforts within the UN framework. The office operates under the collective ownership of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) and is dedicated to the advancement of sustainable development goals, particularly the eradication of poverty in all its forms. The DCO is committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of sustainable development, aligning its efforts with the integrated nature of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The office is located in Bangkok, Thailand, and plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing the resident coordinator system.

Job Overview:
The internship programme at the United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO) is designed to provide interns with practical experience in the field of international development and coordination. Interns will work under the supervision of the Human Resources Officer and will be involved in various tasks that support the office's mission. The internship is expected to last between two to six months, depending on the needs of the office and the intern's availability. Interns are required to work full-time, five days a week, totaling 35 hours. This is an unpaid internship, and while no prior work experience is necessary, candidates are expected to bring relevant skills and knowledge that can contribute to the UN's objectives. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work that supports the UN's sustainable development agenda, gaining insights into the operations of a major international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that may include conducting research, gathering and analyzing information, assisting in the preparation of reports, and supporting the Human Resources Officer in various administrative functions. They may also be involved in projects related to the UN's sustainable development goals, helping to coordinate activities and events, and contributing to the overall mission of the DCO. Interns are expected to demonstrate strong research skills, proficiency in technology, particularly in tools like Power Automate, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. The internship provides a unique opportunity to learn about the UN's operations and to contribute to important initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for the internship programme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: they must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or they must be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). While no prior work experience is required, applicants should possess skills and knowledge that can benefit the United Nations during their internship. A strong aptitude for technology, particularly proficiency in Power Automate, is essential, along with excellent research skills and the ability to gather and analyze information effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed or be currently enrolled in a graduate programme or the final year of an undergraduate programme. This educational background ensures that interns have the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the work of the DCO. The focus on higher education reflects the UN's commitment to engaging with individuals who are well-prepared to tackle complex global challenges.

Experience:
No prior work experience is required for this internship position. The United Nations is looking for candidates who are eager to learn and contribute to the organization's mission. Interns will gain valuable experience in the field of international development and coordination, which can serve as a stepping stone for future career opportunities within the UN or related fields.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the intern's ability to contribute to the office's work.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements with the DCO prior to accepting the internship offer. Additionally, the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring that the application process is accessible to all qualified candidates.
