The organization is committed to strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. UNEP's Ecosystems Division is involved in significant initiatives such as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which aims to halt and reverse biodiversity loss globally. The Kunming Biodiversity Fund, a new Multi-Partner Trust Fund co-led by UNEP and China, has a commitment of $220 million USD to support the implementation of the KM-GBF in developing countries.

Job Overview:
The Knowledge Management and Communications Officer will be responsible for leading the global delivery and implementation of the Kunming Biodiversity Fund Secretariat's knowledge management and communications strategy. This role involves preparing, overseeing, and coordinating a diverse range of communications and knowledge management products to advance the KBF programme of work. The incumbent will identify opportunities for events, ensure the KBF's profile is elevated on relevant international days, and oversee the development and management of the KBF website. The position requires regular communication with the Fund’s Independent Technical Advisory Group (ITAG) and involves research, analysis, and presentation of information from diverse sources. The officer will monitor and evaluate the KBF’s KM and communications strategy, edit and produce written outputs, build relationships with media and partners, conduct outreach activities, and assist in quality control of reports. Additionally, the officer will coordinate budget and funding activities and analyze data to provide insights for decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Knowledge Management and Communications Officer include leading the implementation of the KBF knowledge management and communications strategy, preparing and coordinating communications products, organizing events, managing the KBF website, ensuring timely updates and relevant content, tracking website analytics, coordinating KM and communications activities with Fund members, maintaining communication with ITAG, conducting research and analysis, monitoring and evaluating the KM strategy, editing written outputs, building relationships with media and partners, conducting outreach activities, assisting in quality control of reports, coordinating budget and funding activities, and analyzing data for insights.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of biodiversity communications, knowledge management, and learning theories. The candidate should possess the ability to identify and analyze issues, conduct data collection, and apply judgment in assignments. The officer should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, planning, and organizing skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and convey information effectively to management. The candidate should also be motivated by professional concerns and show persistence in problem-solving.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in knowledge systems, communications, learning, or related fields is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management is required, including experience in designing, planning, facilitating, and implementing knowledge-related and/or learning initiatives in the environmental sector. The candidate should have experience in producing written communication products for both technical and non-technical audiences, and experience working internationally in biodiversity and ecosystem conservation or policy is essential. Experience in data management, analysis, and visualization is desirable, as is experience with international secretariats and managing multi-partner funds. Two or more years of experience in data analytics or a related area is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), while knowledge is defined as a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.

The appointment for this position is for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension, contingent upon the continued existence of the mandate and availability of funding.
