Job Overview: The position of Consultant in Digital Storytelling is integral to the 'Dive into Heritage' project, which aims to enhance the accessibility and engagement of UNESCO World Heritage sites through digital narratives. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Project Manager and will be responsible for creating engaging digital storytelling narratives for six pilot World Heritage sites in the Arab States region. This role requires a deep understanding of cultural heritage and the ability to produce concise, engaging content that highlights the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of each site. The consultant will utilize various digital media formats to create interactive and educational experiences that resonate with a broad audience. The expected duration of the assignment is three months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Developing engaging and interactive digital storytelling narratives for six UNESCO World Heritage sites, ensuring that each narrative effectively showcases the site's OUV and related Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Producing concise explanatory texts for each site that are accessible to a wide audience, detailing historical facts and key attributes.
Creating visual storyboards that outline the narrative flow and proposed digital media elements, such as 3D models, interactive maps, and videos.
Collaborating closely with UNESCO and other stakeholders to determine the most suitable digital media for highlighting the attributes of each site.
Attending coordination meetings to discuss progress and approaches for each site.
Preparing a Final Report summarizing the work completed and providing guidelines for future digital storytelling initiatives.
Ensuring that all digital media and datasets are utilized effectively and that any proposed third-party content is approved by UNESCO.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in cultural heritage, digital humanities, media studies, communications, design, or a related field. Proven expertise in creative and visual storytelling, particularly in the context of cultural heritage, is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience in drafting digital narratives and familiarity with relevant web technologies. Strong knowledge of UNESCO World Heritage sites and their OUV, as well as proficiency in digital media production, is also required. Excellent command of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in fields related to cultural heritage, digital humanities, media studies, communications, or design. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of cultural narratives and the technologies used to present them effectively.
