Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Strategic Management Unit (SMU) of OSAA, where the intern will be engaged in a variety of tasks that support the unit's strategic communications, advocacy efforts, digital design, website content management, social media engagement, and monitoring and evaluation activities. The intern will work closely under the supervision of a staff member from the communications team, contributing to the overall mission of OSAA to enhance Africa's development agenda. The internship is designed to be in-person, with a flexible duration of 3 to 6 months, allowing for adjustments based on the successful candidate's requests. The intern will gain valuable experience in a dynamic environment, working on real-world projects that have a significant impact on Africa's development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties that include:
  • Strategic Communications: - Maintaining OSAA’s content calendar to ensure timely updates and information dissemination. - Collecting strategic communication materials from various sources to support OSAA’s initiatives. - Managing Trello boards for OSAA events and campaigns to streamline project management.
  • Advocacy: - Assisting in the organization of OSAA events, including both hybrid and in-person formats. - Creating and maintaining distribution lists for media outreach and product dissemination. - Coordinating meetings with partners to advance OSAA’s advocacy agenda.
  • Digital Design: - Producing data visualizations for OSAA knowledge products to enhance understanding and engagement. - Designing event flyers, social media assets, and PowerPoint presentations to promote OSAA’s activities. - Creating desktop publishing assets for OSAA knowledge products to ensure professional presentation.
  • Website Content Management: - Maintaining the information architecture on the OSAA website to ensure user-friendly navigation. - Creating, curating, and posting multimedia content for the OSAA website to keep it current and engaging. - Enhancing the language versions of the OSAA website to reach a broader audience.
  • Social Media: - Creating multimedia content for OSAA’s official social media accounts to increase visibility and engagement. - Monitoring social media trends related to OSAA’s priorities to inform strategic decisions. - Titling and subtitling short videos used on OSAA’s social media platforms to enhance accessibility.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E): - Compiling analytics data from OSAA’s website and social media accounts to assess impact and reach. - Collecting data from various OSAA surveys to inform program development. - Testing and researching tools to boost OSAA’s M&E capacity to improve effectiveness.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). This ensures that candidates possess the necessary academic background to contribute effectively to the work of OSAA.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to have either completed or be currently enrolled in a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program. This educational requirement is crucial as it ensures that the intern has a solid foundation in relevant fields such as international relations, communications, public policy, or a related discipline, which will enable them to engage meaningfully with the tasks assigned.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, any relevant experience in communications, advocacy, digital design, or project management will be advantageous. Interns are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt quickly to the fast-paced environment of the United Nations, particularly within the context of African development initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage. The official languages of the United Nations Secretariat include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, and proficiency in any of these languages can enhance the intern's ability to contribute to the organization's goals.
