In Ukraine, FAO has been active since 2003 and has significantly increased its presence and activities since the outbreak of the war in February 2022, focusing on emergencyhumanitarian response and agricultural development.
Job Overview: The Driver position at FAO involves providing transportation services for FAO personnel and official visitors in Ukraine. The role requires the driver to be responsible for the safety and maintenance of the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is always ready for use. The driver will also be required to log official trips and manage vehicle-related expenditures. This position is crucial for facilitating the movement of staff and resources, particularly in rural areas where access may be limited. The driver must be adaptable and able to respond to the dynamic needs of the organization, including potential cross-border travel.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for the following tasks: driving FAO personnel and official visitors on local and international missions; logging official trips, daily mileage, and vehicle expenditures; ensuring day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including minor repairs and timely arrangements for major repairs; maintaining cleanliness and readiness of the vehicle; ensuring availability of required documents and supplies; taking immediate actions in case of accidents and following organizational protocols; collecting and delivering mail, documents, and other items; assisting Field Office staff with clerical or administrative duties as needed; and performing other related duties as requested.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements: completed secondary education; a valid Ukrainian driver’s license (B, C1, or C category); at least 3 years of work experience as a driver, preferably with a UN or NGO; fluency in Russian and Ukrainian; and must be a national of Ukraine. Additional competencies include results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.
Educational Background: While secondary education is the minimum requirement, a university education is considered an asset. Candidates must have their educational qualifications recognized by the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, ideally with a UN agency or non-governmental organization. Experience in driving in various conditions and knowledge of local driving regulations is essential.
Languages: Fluency in Russian and Ukrainian is mandatory, with a working knowledge of English (Level B) considered an advantage. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in these languages to fulfill the job requirements.
