Job Overview:
The Education for Sustainable Development Coordinator will work under the overall authority of the director-general" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Assistant Director-General for Education and will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and reporting on various projects and programs related to education for sustainable development (ESD). This role involves coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including UNESCO Chairs, Member States, and Field Offices, to ensure effective implementation of the ESD for 2030 framework. The incumbent will provide policy advice, technical support, and capacity-building activities to promote effective ESD policies and practices in Member States. The position requires a strategic approach to leverage ESD in transforming education and improving learning outcomes, as well as organizing large-scale ESD events and managing the UNESCO Japan ESD Prize.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will coordinate the global, regional, and national implementation of the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) for 2030 framework. Responsibilities include providing policy advice and technical support to Member States, planning and organizing research and partnerships, initiating strategic frameworks for ESD, overseeing large-scale ESD events, managing the UNESCO Japan ESD Prize, developing knowledge products and guidelines, leading the ESD for 2030 team, and exploring resource mobilization opportunities. The role also involves ensuring effective communication and collaboration among teams and stakeholders, monitoring progress, and evaluating program outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in education, science, or related social science fields. A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in education systems analysis, development, or reforms is required, with at least 3 years at the international level. Proven experience in fundraising and resource mobilization, as well as outreach and partnership building, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a good understanding of global trends in education for sustainable development and possess strong conceptual, analytical, and technical skills.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in education, science, or related social science fields is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of education systems and the necessary reforms to promote sustainable development.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience in education systems analysis, development, and/or reforms. This experience should include at least 3 years acquired at the international level, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex educational landscapes and implement effective strategies for sustainable development.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English or French is mandatory, along with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is considered desirable and would enhance the candidate's profile.

The position is a fixed-term contract for a duration of 2 years, renewable based on performance and organizational needs. The role is full-time and open to both internal and external candidates. The approximate annual starting salary for this position is 118,625 USD, with additional benefits including 30 days of annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, and a pension plan.
