Job Overview: The Programme Management Officer position is situated within the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), specifically in the Implementation Support Division (ISD). The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of functions that support the planning, coordination, and monitoring of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnerships Global Coordination Unit’s (GCU) work plans and program activities. This includes compiling and synthesizing information from Participating Agencies, preparing consolidated progress reports, and maintaining a database of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAP) support activities. The role also involves engaging with various partners, organizing meetings and workshops, and conducting administrative support functions. The position requires a proactive approach to facilitate collaboration among stakeholders and ensure effective communication and coordination.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Compile and synthesize information from Participating Agencies to assist in planning, coordination, delivery, and monitoring of the GCU’s work plans and program activities.
Collect, collate, and maintain access to information through a database and online platforms regarding NBSAP support activities and other relevant initiatives.
Support engagement and collaboration with partners including UN agencies, international organizations, and funding agencies, facilitating communication among all stakeholders.
Organize and service meetings, workshops, events, and trainings, including logistical arrangements and preparation of documentation.
Conduct administrative functions such as drafting correspondence, maintaining schedules, preparing meeting minutes, and managing office records.
Assist with data collection and analysis, preparing presentations and reports for information sharing and decision-making.
Update information materials such as web pages or brochures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience in programme management, sustainable development, environmental management, or public administration. The minimum experience requirement is reduced by two (2) years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Experience in capacity development, knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation, and project management is desirable. Familiarity with Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and experience within the United Nations system or similar international organizations is also preferred. Proficiency in office software packages such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as experience with web-based management systems, is desirable. Experience in supporting biodiversity-related activities is a plus, along with at least one year of experience in data analytics or a related area.
Educational Background: Completion of secondary school education or equivalent is required. Supplementary training in environmental management, social sciences, public administration, project management, or equivalent is desirable.

Additional Notes: The appointment for this position is for an initial period of one (1) year and may be subject to extension. This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that candidates must be recruited within the country or commuting distance of the office. Staff members in the General Service and related categories are recruited locally, regardless of nationality.
