Job Overview: The Intern will be based in Tunis and will work under the overall guidance of the IOM Tunisia Chief of Mission, with direct supervision from the Regular Pathways Project Manager and National Project Officer. The primary function of this position is to provide necessary support in the implementation of program activities in Tunisia. The intern will be involved in various administrative tasks, including fulfilling internal formalities, assisting in the organization of events and workshops, updating partner contacts, drafting communication materials, and maintaining documentation systems. The role requires a proactive approach to support the smooth daily running of administrative functions in accordance with IOM’s regulations and procedures. The intern will also be responsible for translating project-related documents as needed and ensuring confidentiality and integrity of all project-related information.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the intern include: fulfilling internal administrative formalities and following up on documents such as payment requests and travel documents; assisting in organizing events, workshops, and coordination meetings with local partners; supporting the drafting and layout of project-related communication materials, including reports and articles; maintaining proper documentation and systematic tracking of administrative documents; verifying invoices and supporting documentation; participating in the preparation of meetings and drafting minutes; and performing other duties as assigned. The intern will also be responsible for ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive information related to project applicants and beneficiaries.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program or enrolled in a second university degree, or have recently graduated from an accredited academic institution. A background in language civilization, communication, or public relations is preferred. The candidate should demonstrate a strong interest in working with international organizations and possess sound knowledge of project implementation, financial and administrative management skills. Familiarity with the region and migration themes is an asset, along with proficiency in computer systems and software.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a university program, preferably in fields related to language civilization, communication, or public relations. This educational background will provide the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support the various tasks associated with the internship.
Experience: Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in working in international organizations. Experience in project implementation and financial and administrative management is advantageous. Familiarity with the migration thematic and the region is considered an asset. The intern should also be computer literate and able to quickly learn new systems, which is essential for managing administrative tasks effectively.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic, English, and French is required for this position, both orally and in writing. Proficiency in these languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation, and the appointment will require certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the concerned government. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the assignment, but interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment.
