Job Overview:
The Field Security Associate (FSA) position is located in the UNDSS field office in Istanbul, Türkiye. The FSA plays a crucial role in assisting the Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO) in implementing security operations and managing safety and security for UN personnel, premises, assets, and operations in the designated Area of Responsibility (AoR). This position requires a proactive approach to security management, including the development and execution of security plans, conducting physical security assessments, and providing advice on residential security. The FSA will also be responsible for collecting and communicating information regarding the security situation in the Istanbul Security Area, ensuring that UN personnel are informed and prepared for any potential security threats. The role demands strong coordination with host government security authorities and other stakeholders to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the security landscape.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Security Associate will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the Area advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Advisor (ASA) in all aspects of security management; assisting in the collection, updating, and communication of security information; liaising with host government security authorities; assessing the security situation at the duty station; communicating security issues to UN organization heads; maintaining contact with Security Professionals and Focal Points; providing technical assistance for Area Security Cell meetings; preparing and reviewing security reports and plans; monitoring the implementation of security measures; reporting security incidents; maintaining the Security Communications System; conducting security evaluations; providing administrative support; and performing other security-related tasks as assigned. The FSA will also be involved in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and providing security orientation to new staff members.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of secondary education, with a university degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field being advantageous. A minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience is required for candidates with a high school diploma, or 3 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Experience in security, risk management, or emergency response is essential, with prior experience in the United Nations Security Management System or an International Non-Governmental Organization being desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and PowerBI, is required, along with a valid driver's license for Türkiye. This position is exclusively for Turkish Nationals.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes secondary education as a minimum. A university degree in fields such as Business Administration or Public Administration is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with relevant educational qualifications will be given due consideration during the selection process.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible administrative or project experience for candidates with a high school diploma, or 3 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Relevant work experience in security, risk management, or emergency response is crucial, with a preference for candidates who have experience within the United Nations or similar organizations. Familiarity with data analysis or business intelligence tools is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Turkish, both written and oral, is a mandatory requirement for this position. Candidates must demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively in both languages to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

  • The initial duration of the contract is 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The position is classified at the NPSA-6 level, and additional testing may be required as determined by the Secretariat. The role is specifically open to Turkish Nationals only.
