The Bangkok Shared Service Centre (BSSC) is a unit within UNOPS that provides internal, global, cost-effective transactional services to enhance operational capacity and standardize systems and procedures. It focuses on high-quality transactional services, particularly in personnel contract administration and payroll, offering young professionals a pathway into the UN system through back-office service delivery in a dynamic work environment.
Job Overview: The Finance Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the provision of financial services within the support services function at UNOPS. Under the guidance of the Finance Officer, the Finance Assistant is responsible for ensuring high quality, accuracy, and consistency in financial operations. This position promotes a client-oriented approach in line with UNOPS rules and regulations. The Finance Assistant collaborates closely with Programme, Project, and Support Services colleagues, as well as UNOPS HQ staff, to facilitate effective communication and consistent service delivery. The role encompasses the implementation of operational strategies, accounting support, and knowledge sharing, contributing to the overall execution of UNOPS financial services and enhancing the organization's capability to manage financial resources effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Implementation of operational strategies and procedures, ensuring compliance with UNOPS rules and regulations in financial processes and records.
Provide accounting and administrative support, including timely review of payments, communication with system support teams and banks, and responding to payment inquiries.
Maintain accurate digital filing systems for financial records, assist in audits, and support the team with daily tasks.
Facilitate knowledge building through participation in finance-focused training and contributions to knowledge networks.
Ensure that all financial transactions adhere to service level agreements and assist in resolving payment issues.
Prepare routine correspondence and maintain online records for easy reference.
Support external and internal audits by preparing requested materials and liaising with banks for payment rejections.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary school or equivalent is required.
A Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fields is desirable and may substitute some required work experience.
Specialized training in finance is considered an asset.
At least 4 years of relevant accounting and financial experience at the national level is required for candidates with secondary school completion.
Proficiency in using computers and office software packages, particularly MS Office and spreadsheet/database applications, is desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary school or an equivalent level of education. A Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fields is preferred and may reduce the required years of work experience. Specialized training in finance is also desirable, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates are required to have at least 4 years of relevant accounting and financial experience at the national level if they have completed secondary school. Experience with computers and office software packages, particularly MS Office and spreadsheet/database applications, is desirable. Familiarity with web-based management systems is also advantageous, as it indicates a candidate's ability to navigate modern financial tools and platforms effectively.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of a second UN working language is considered desirable, as it can enhance communication and collaboration within the diverse UN environment.
Additional Notes: This position is stationed in Bangkok, Thailand, which is classified as a family duty station. UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post. For retainer contracts, candidates must complete mandatory courses (approximately 4 hours) in their own time before providing services to UNOPS, with no compensation for course completion. All UNOPS personnel are expected to perform their duties in accordance with the UN Charter and UNOPS Policies, demonstrating an understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Background checks are conducted on all potential personnel, and recruitment is contingent on the results of these checks.
