Job Overview:
The WASH Coordinator plays a crucial role in developing the strategy for Solidarités International by proposing a sector-based strategy in the field of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). This position is responsible for ensuring the quality and appropriateness of WASH activities in alignment with the needs of local populations. The WASH Coordinator oversees the project cycle, particularly the operational monitoring of WASH programs in the intervention country. This role also contributes to the capitalization process and the enhancement of SI's methods and techniques in WASH. Given the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the WASH Coordinator will manage emergency responses and ensure that the projects are relevant and of high quality, while also providing technical support and operational monitoring.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Coordinator's main responsibilities include:
  • Day-to-day management of emergency response activities.
  • Providing strategic orientation for WASH projects.
  • Ensuring the relevance and quality of projects implemented.
  • Coordinating technical support and operational monitoring of WASH programs.
  • Contributing to the capitalization of experiences and improvement of methods.
  • Managing personnel involved in WASH activities.
  • Reporting, communication, and representation of SI in relevant forums. The role also involves navigating high-stress environments and leading teams under challenging conditions, particularly in conflict zones.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BAC +5 degree in WASH-related fields. They should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 0-2 years in similar positions. Specific skills required include a strong background in WASH emergency programming, the ability to lead program development processes, and experience in establishing bases and implementing WASH activities. Networking skills with external entities such as donors and NGOs are essential, along with the capacity to quickly understand the humanitarian context of the country. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, is required, and knowledge of GIS is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a BAC +5 degree in a field related to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). This advanced degree is essential for understanding the complexities of WASH programming and the associated challenges in humanitarian contexts.

Experience:
The position requires substantial experience in the humanitarian sector, specifically a minimum of 5 years. Candidates should have experience in similar roles, ideally with a focus on WASH programming in emergency settings. Experience working in conflict zones is highly valued, as it demonstrates the ability to manage teams and projects under high levels of insecurity and stress.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, as it can facilitate communication with local populations and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a short-term contract position with an expected start date of January 15, 2025, lasting for 5 months. The role is based in Deir-el-Balah, Gaza, where living conditions are challenging due to ongoing conflict and disruptions to basic services. The salary for this position starts at EUR 2,860 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, and provides a comprehensive insurance package for expatriates, covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations.
