Job Overview: The Policy Officer (Regional Liaison) plays a crucial role in providing intellectual leadership and operational support for the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty (GAAHP) in the Asia-Pacific region. This position is integral to the Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division, hosted by the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand. The officer will be responsible for implementing coherent and effective policy assistance and governance work that supports Global Alliance member nations at various levels. This includes responding to new policy assistance requests and ensuring that the work aligns with FAO's delivery mechanisms. The officer will engage in policy analysis, support the adoption of cross-sectoral policies, and promote best practices in nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the organization of capacity development activities to enhance governance in food systems.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Policy Officer (Regional Liaison) will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Supporting the work of Alliance members in policy and governance initiatives.
Participating in multidisciplinary teams and policy analysis missions, contributing to international policy-setting bodies.
Collaborating with stakeholders to analyze and implement policies related to food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture.
Promoting best practices and facilitating policy dialogue to enhance governance in food systems.
Monitoring and implementing regional and subregional policy work programs and budgets.
Organizing capacity development activities and creating related materials and tools.
Building networks with governmental and organizational counterparts to facilitate program coordination.
Identifying critical program issues and organizing information flows from external collaborators.
Representing GAAHP in institutional inquiries and facilitating responses. 1
Supporting resource mobilization for social protection, poverty eradication, and food security initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
An advanced university degree in political sciences, economics, sociology, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, or a related field.
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in policy advice and public analysis related to social protection, poverty eradication, food and nutrition security, and rural development.
Proficiency in English (level C) and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) (level B).
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in fields such as political sciences, economics, sociology, food security, nutrition, or sustainable agriculture. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complex issues related to food security and policy development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in areas such as policy advice, public analysis, social protection, poverty eradication, food and nutrition security, and rural development. Experience in monitoring and evaluating policies and programs is also essential. Candidates with work experience in multiple locations or areas, particularly in field positions, will be viewed favorably.
Languages: Candidates must have a working knowledge of English at proficiency level C and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) at level B. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset.
