Job Overview: The GYSI Lead will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion strategy for an upcoming Resilience security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security Activity (RFSA) in Uganda, funded by USAID. This program aims to improve and sustain nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food and nutrition security for vulnerable populations through multi-year resilience activities. The GYSI Lead will ensure the integration of women, youth, and other marginalized groups into all program activities, addressing the underlying causes of food insecurity and malnutrition while strengthening transformative opportunities. The anticipated start date for the program is in 2025, and the position will be based in Uganda.
Duties and Responsibilities: The GYSI Lead will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: leading the development of the GYSI strategy that guides the integration of GYSI into all program activities; supporting participatory approaches to develop strategies for gender and youth integration; collaborating with the Chief of Party (COP) and technical teams on GYSI strategy implementation; designing and implementing GYSI analyses and impact assessments; providing technical advice and training to program staff and stakeholders; reviewing project work plans with a focus on GYSI dimensions; ensuring data disaggregation by sex, age, and social factors in M&E processes; incorporating GYSI into CLA plans and practices; preparing reports for USAID and ACDI/VOCA; disseminating lessons learned among stakeholders; and maintaining a thorough understanding of GYSI related to program components.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in sociology, gender, international development, or a relevant field, with a master’s degree being preferred. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in GYSI programming is required. Knowledge of USAID rules and regulations related to GYSI is essential, along with familiarity with frameworks such as do no harm, women’s empowerment, social cohesion, and positive youth development. Demonstrated experience in addressing gender, youth, and disability dynamics in food security and resilience programming is necessary, as well as experience in conducting gender analysis and qualitative research. Experience working in Uganda is preferred, and fluency in English is required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in sociology, gender studies, international development, or a related field. A master’s degree is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in GYSI programming. This experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of gender, youth, and social inclusion dynamics, particularly in the context of food security and resilience programming. Experience with USAID-funded projects and familiarity with relevant regulations and frameworks is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as requirements.
