Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant in Natural Sciences at UNESCO is designed to support the Earth Sciences and Geoparks Section in enhancing its outreach initiatives and managing media and digital campaigns. The consultant will play a pivotal role in developing strategic communication objectives that aim to increase the visibility and engagement of UNESCO's Earth Sciences and Geoparks programs. The consultant will be responsible for creating compelling content that effectively communicates the impact of various projects and initiatives across multiple media platforms, including social media, websites, and print materials. This role requires a blend of creativity, technical skills, and project management expertise to ensure that the communication strategies align with UNESCO's mission and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
  • Writing and coordinating website texts for 128 UNESCO Global Geoparks, ensuring clarity and engagement.
  • Preparing for the launch of the new UNESCO Global Geoparks in 2025, including drafting press releases, coordinating media coverage, and overseeing social media campaigns.
  • Developing a strategic communication plan for the 10th anniversary of UNESCO Global Geoparks, including event suggestions and visual identity toolkits.
  • Creating outreach materials for partners and donors, highlighting the achievements of the International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme.
  • Coordinating the production of podcast episodes related to Earth Sciences.
  • Planning and delivering diverse content for social media and the website, ensuring regular updates and engagement with audiences.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Communications, Media Studies, or Humanities. Significant professional experience in coordinating media campaigns, drafting press releases, and managing multi-language content is essential. Experience in collaborative projects involving diverse teams and stakeholders is also required. Strong technical skills in digital content management systems, social media platforms, and multimedia production tools are necessary, along with excellent organizational skills and familiarity with the UN system.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Media Studies, or Humanities is required for this position. This educational background should provide the candidate with a solid foundation in communication strategies, media relations, and project management, which are critical for the successful execution of the consultant's responsibilities.

Experience:
The position requires significant professional experience, ideally in an international organization. Candidates should have a proven track record in coordinating media campaigns, drafting press releases, and managing content across multiple languages.
