Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position is situated within UNEP's Ecosystems Division, specifically in the Programme Support Unit (PSU). The PSU plays a crucial role in overseeing project planning, management, monitoring, and reporting, ensuring that quality standards are met throughout the project lifecycle. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the project portfolio management dashboard, tracking project implementation progress, and ensuring compliance with corporate standards. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance the operational efficiency of the Ecosystems Division and support the completion of legal instrument processing and publication planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will undertake several key tasks, including:
  • Monitoring the implementation progress of the Division’s projects through the Ecosystems Division Project Portfolio Dashboard and other reporting tools.
  • Maintaining and updating the project portfolio management dashboard to ensure accurate and timely information.
  • Reviewing project lifecycle management and informing managers of necessary actions in line with corporate standards.
  • Assessing the quality of project reporting and communicating findings to project managers.
  • Guiding data entry for project-related information and analyzing financial implementation status.
  • Tracking the processing of legal instruments and advising on actions needed for completion.
  • Keeping track of the Division’s publications and supporting staff with publication procedures.
  • Providing flexible support to unit functions as required. Additionally, the volunteer is expected to engage in activities that promote volunteerism and contribute to UNV publications.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies is essential, along with a solid understanding of environmental policies and practices. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to effectively convey information and collaborate with various stakeholders. Familiarity with UNEP’s operations and objectives will be advantageous.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, project management, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in project management or environmental policy will be considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in project management, monitoring, and reporting, preferably within an international organization or non-governmental organization. Experience working in environmental policy or sustainable development projects is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, would be considered an asset and beneficial for communication within the international context of UNEP.
