Job Overview:
The Programme Assistant for Education will play a crucial role in supporting the Education Sector’s programs, activities, and operations under the guidance of senior officials within UNESCO. This position involves a variety of office support and administrative functions that are essential for the smooth operation of the Education Sector. The Programme Assistant will be responsible for budget and financial management, coordination of sector activities, travel management, and event organization. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure effective decision-making processes and the timely execution of educational programs. The Programme Assistant will also be expected to maintain accurate records, facilitate communication within the team, and support the overall mission of UNESCO in promoting education as a fundamental human right.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Budget and Financial Management: Assist in preparing and updating the Education Sector’s procurement and budget plans. Monitor expenditures, ensure timely payments, and maintain financial records. Provide guidance on budget usage and manage vendor registrations.
  • Coordination for the Sector: Provide administrative support to ensure effective decision-making and implementation of educational programs. Maintain databases, manage correspondence, and facilitate communication between sectors.
  • Travel Management: Prepare travel plans, requisitions, and logistics for missions, ensuring compliance with UNESCO policies.
  • Event Management: Organize meetings, workshops, and events, providing logistical support and managing documentation.
  • General Administrative Support: Oversee office supplies, manage attendance records, and act as a focal point for new systems and tools introduced within the sector.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Completed Secondary Education with a technical or vocational diploma/certificate.
  • Work Experience: At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in administration, financial management, or education at the national or sub-regional level. Experience in supporting national development projects in education is preferred.
  • Skills and Competencies: Strong organizational and coordination skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, excellent interpersonal skills, and proficiency in IT and office software. Familiarity with the UN system is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education, with a technical or vocational diploma or certificate. Higher education in administration, management, education, or social sciences is desirable.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in administration, financial management, or education. Experience in supporting the implementation of development projects is highly valued, particularly in the education sector.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory. Knowledge of an Indian official language is considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is a fixed-term contract for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal. It is open to both internal and external candidates, but only those entitled to work in India may apply. The approximate annual starting salary is 835,587 INR, with additional benefits including annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, and a pension plan.
