Job Overview: The position of Senior Economist within the Economics Department of AIIB is designed to support the bank's policy-based lending initiatives aimed at addressing climate change challenges faced by its member countries. Duties and Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the Senior Economist include:
Conducting comprehensive country-specific analyses on policies, institutions, regulations, and frameworks related to climate change and green infrastructure investment, assessing the adequacy of macroeconomic and budget frameworks for policy-based lending.
Engaging with country authorities to facilitate policy dialogues on climate-related issues and investment strategies.
Designing policy measures and parameters for AIIB's policy-based financing, monitoring progress, and conducting post hoc assessments of lending operations.
Supporting the Economics Department in advancing research and thought leadership on climate and environmental issues, including conducting original research to provide new insights on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Contributing to the bank's project operations through macroeconomic monitoring, cost-benefit analysis, and assessing the development impact of projects.
Collaborating with interdepartmental teams to ensure alignment of economic policies with AIIB's strategic objectives and member countries' climate commitments.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in economics, with a PhD preferred. A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in international organizations, investment banks, think-tanks, government agencies, or financial institutions is required. Strong expertise in climate change-related disciplines such as energy economics, environmental economics, sustainable development, climate finance, and transition planning is essential. Experience in macroeconomic and fiscal policy setting, particularly as it pertains to policy-based lending, is a plus. An academic research record in climate economics or relevant publications is advantageous.
