Job Overview: The IT Consultant position at UNESCO is pivotal for managing the complete systems implementation process, particularly focusing on the needs of the Bureau of Human Resources Management (HRM) and system users. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including HR personnel and implementing partners, to ensure that the implementation of SAP Success Factors for talent management meets the organization's business requirements. The role requires a deep understanding of both the technical and functional aspects of the systems being implemented, as well as the ability to facilitate communication and collaboration among diverse groups. The consultant will report to the Chief of Section, Staff Services in HRM, and will also have indirect reporting lines to the Director of DBS and the Director of HRM, ensuring that all project activities align with the strategic goals of UNESCO.
Duties and Responsibilities: The IT Consultant will engage in several key responsibilities, including stakeholder engagement and requirements analysis, where they will work closely with HR stakeholders to understand their business needs and facilitate workshops for detailed requirements gathering. They will also be responsible for project management and implementation, developing project scope and objectives, and ensuring technical feasibility in collaboration with stakeholders. The consultant will oversee the entire implementation process, ensuring adherence to project plans, timelines, and budgets. Additionally, they will serve as the primary liaison between the implementing partner and HR stakeholders, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration. Regular progress reporting to senior management and the governance board will be required, along with quality assurance and risk management throughout the project lifecycle. The consultant will also develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and facilitate training sessions for HR staff and employees on the new systems, ensuring effective knowledge transfer for sustained system management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technologies, Database Management, or a related field. They should have at least 10 years of proven experience in managing large-scale IT system implementations. A strong background in SAP and SuccessFactors is essential, along with a solid understanding of software development and web technologies. Proficiency in Agile methodologies is required, as well as excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as Computer Science, Information Technologies, or Database Management. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of IT systems and their implementation in a large organizational context.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, specifically in managing large-scale IT system implementations. This extensive experience is necessary to navigate the challenges associated with such projects and to ensure successful outcomes that align with organizational goals.
Languages: Candidates must have excellent knowledge of English, both oral and written. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it enhances communication with diverse stakeholders within UNESCO and its global operations.
