Job Posting Organization:
Solidarités International (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association that has been operational for over 40 years. The organization focuses on providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters, addressing their basic needs for food, water, and shelter. SI is particularly dedicated to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, which is a leading cause of death globally. The organization operates in approximately twenty countries and employs around 2,500 individuals, including expatriates, national staff, and volunteers. SI is committed to professionalism and cultural respect in its interventions, which are supported by various donors including FCDO, ECHO, CIAA, CDCS, and UN agencies.

Job Overview:
The WASH Coordinator plays a crucial role in contributing to the strategic direction of Solidarités International by developing a sector-based strategy for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). This position is responsible for ensuring the quality of technical approaches and the appropriateness of WASH activities. The WASH Coordinator will oversee the project cycle and operational monitoring of WASH programs, while also contributing to the capitalization and enhancement of SI's methods and techniques in the WASH sector. The role involves significant representation responsibilities, including participation in the monthly WASH cluster meetings in Yangon, engagement with donors, and leadership in consortia with local partners. The WASH Coordinator will also focus on capacity assessment and building for partners, particularly in the context of remote management due to limited access to Myanmar.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Coordinator's duties include proposing and implementing a sector-based strategy for WASH, ensuring the quality of technical approaches, coordinating the project cycle, and monitoring operational aspects of WASH programs. The role requires active participation in WASH cluster meetings and donor engagements, as well as leading the WASH component in emergency response consortia. The Coordinator will also be responsible for onboarding new team members, restructuring the WASH/Programs organizational chart, and strengthening SI's leadership in emergency response. Additionally, the WASH Coordinator will oversee the conclusion of programs related to Cyclone Mocha and ensure effective remote management of activities in challenging contexts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university-level degree, preferably a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Engineering, Environment, or Geology. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector is required, with at least 3-4 years in similar positions. Technical skills in water supply and resource management, emergency sanitation solutions, and behavior change hygiene promotion are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong external coordination and technical leadership abilities, as well as an appetite for technical advocacy and communication with donors.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university-level degree, with a preference for a Master’s degree in fields related to Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Engineering, Environment, or Geology. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of WASH interventions and for developing effective strategies to address the needs of affected populations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 3-4 years specifically in roles related to WASH coordination or similar functions. This level of experience is necessary to ensure that the candidate is well-versed in the challenges and best practices associated with WASH programming in emergency and protracted crisis contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in French and Myanmar/Burmese is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders and local partners in the field.

Additional Notes:
The position is a short-term contract with a desired start date of August 1, 2024, and a duration of 12 months. The role may initially require remote management due to limited access to Myanmar, with the possibility of being based in Bangkok or the surrounding region. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 2860, a monthly per diem of 700 USD (Yangon) or 750 USD (Bangkok), accommodation costs, and travel expenses covered by SI. Additionally, expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, and a break system allowing for time off every two months, along with an additional rest day for each month worked.
