Job Overview: The Head of Private Sector Unit will be responsible for leading UNESCO's engagement with the private sector, which includes businesses, philanthropic organizations, foundations, and individual donors. This position is crucial for overseeing the development and implementation of UNESCO’s Private Sector Engagement Strategy for the years 2025-2029, ensuring that it aligns with UNESCO's strategic objectives. The role requires a proactive approach to monitor private sector investment trends and to build strong relationships with key stakeholders. The Head will also be tasked with developing pitches and presentations to support engagement efforts and will oversee the maintenance of a database of private sector stakeholders. Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of UNESCO’s Private Sector Engagement Strategy 2025-202
Responsibilities include ensuring coordinated engagement with the private sector across UNESCO, monitoring investment trends, building relationships with private sector partners, developing pitches and presentations, maintaining a database of stakeholders, disseminating information on financing opportunities, analyzing existing partnerships, organizing strategic dialogues, improving knowledge management systems, advising on agreements with private sector partners, and managing a small team of specialists. The role also involves performing any other duties as assigned by the Chief of Section for Strategic Partnerships and Donor Relations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, or a closely related discipline. A first-level university degree in these fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying professional experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or related fields, with a preference for three years at the international level. Demonstrated experience in grants management, partnerships, and financial reporting is essential, along with experience in managing cross-functional teams.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, or a closely related discipline is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in the aforementioned fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying professional experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience in accounting, finance, or closely related fields. This experience should ideally include at least three years acquired at the international level. Demonstrated experience in grants management, partnerships, and financial reporting is crucial, particularly in relation to reporting to various stakeholders. Experience in managing cross-functional teams is also required.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English or French is mandatory, with good knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and/or Spanish) is considered desirable.
Additional Notes: The position is a temporary appointment with a contract duration of 11 months, renewable subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The role is open to both internal and external candidates. The approximate annual starting salary for this position is 122,716 USD, and benefits may include 30 days of annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, and a pension plan.
