Job Overview: The position of Data Entry Clerk is crucial in the context of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) initiative, particularly in resource-limited settings like Malawi. The role involves entering and managing data collected during the Bloodstream Infectious Prevalence Survey, which aims to estimate the prevalence of AMR in human bloodstream infections. The Data Entry Clerks will work closely with the Malawi Ministry of Health, WHO, and various clinical and laboratory personnel to ensure that the data collected is accurate, complete, and adheres to predefined scientific and quality standards. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively within a team to achieve the overall objectives of the survey.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Data Entry Clerks will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Reviewing paper-based data collection forms for accuracy and completeness.
Following up with hospitals and laboratories regarding missing data, data errors, and queries to ensure correct and complete observations are recorded.
Providing refreshment training and contributing to the induction of new clinical and laboratory staff on data capture and management.
Ensuring proper identification and tracking of patients enrolled in the survey, as well as survey samples and isolates.
Entering survey records into the electronic database and regularly cross-checking the agreement between electronic and paper records.
Managing data in accordance with good data management and confidentiality principles.
Performing other relevant tasks as indicated by the survey epidemiologist and survey coordinator to facilitate data quality and progress.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a diploma in IT or related qualifications. Additionally, training in data entry and management is desirable. Essential qualifications include excellent knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry platforms. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong IT skills.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a diploma in IT or a related field. While a diploma is essential, additional training in data entry and management is considered an asset that can enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
Experience: Candidates are required to have at least two years of experience in IT, data entry, and management. Experience in research or project work is desirable, as it can provide valuable insights into data handling and management processes relevant to the survey.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English, with excellent proficiency required in both oral and written communication. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required for this role.
