Job Posting Organization: The job posting organization is the United NationsMultidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Established in April 2014, MINUSCA was authorized by the UN security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council to address the security, humanitarian, human rights, and political crises in the Central African Republic. The mission's primary objective is the protection of civilians, alongside supporting the transition process, facilitating humanitarian assistance, promoting and protecting human rights, and supporting justice and the rule of law. MINUSCA currently has approximately 11,650 military personnel and 2,080 police personnel deployed, working towards creating political, security, and institutional conditions that sustainably reduce the presence and threat posed by armed groups. The mission also subsumed the UN Integrated Peacebuilding Office in the Central African Republic (BINUCA).
Job Overview: The UN Volunteer Electrical Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Electrical Unit Supervisor and/or the Electro-mechanical unit head in Bangui. The primary responsibilities include supporting the implementation of engineering strategies and projects related to electrical and renewable energy. The technician will assist in the development of guidelines for electrical solar and renewable energy initiatives, ensuring effective management of projects. This role requires providing technical support for designing, reviewing, executing, and commissioning electrical and renewable energy projects. The technician will also participate in assessment processes, prepare technical specifications, and assist in the preparation of tender documents. The position demands a proactive approach to ensure that all electrical installations are well maintained and operational, while also supporting the capacity development of staff and contractors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer Electrical Technician include: supporting the implementation of engineering strategies and projects related to electrical and renewable energy; supervising and monitoring electrical and renewable energy projects; developing guidelines for solar and renewable energy initiatives; providing technical support for project design and execution; participating in assessment processes and preparing technical specifications; assisting in the preparation of tender documents; evaluating bids for projects; liaising with counterparts to identify project needs; managing spare parts requisitions; supervising electrical activities in ongoing projects; ensuring compliance with safety measures and standards; preparing inspection and progress reports; verifying contractor work and preparing payment certificates; assisting in the supervision of national staff; conducting training sessions for staff and contractors; and supporting sectors with required services. The technician will also be expected to travel within the mission area as needed.
