Job Overview: The UN Volunteer in Vehicle Maintenance will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Unit and their deputy. The primary function of this position is to support the Unit in maintaining, servicing, and repairing UN-owned light vehicles, forklifts, buses, excavators, and other vehicle attachments and equipment. The volunteer will be responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are in optimal working condition, which includes performing engine tune-ups, servicing braking systems, cooling systems, and alternative fuel systems, as well as maintaining hydraulic systems and conducting major repairs on engines, gearboxes, and transmissions. The role also involves driving vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensuring that safety procedures and environmentally friendly work habits are adhered to during repairs. The volunteer will conduct pre-emission checks and inspections of vehicles, ensure quality control of repairs, and perform road tests to verify the roadworthiness of vehicles. Additionally, the volunteer will be expected to recover heavy vehicles using specialized equipment and utilize advanced onboard diagnostic systems regularly. The position requires the volunteer to maintain tools and garage equipment in safe working order and prepare reports on broken or lost items. The volunteer will also work independently, providing on-site customer service without needing to relocate equipment, and ensure that the vehicle fleet at the duty station is well-maintained, clean, and presentable.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain, service, and repair UN-owned light vehicles, forklifts, buses, excavators, and other vehicle attachments and equipment.

Maintain hydraulic systems, pumps, and power take-offs.
Conduct major repairs on engines, gearboxes, and transmissions.
Drive vehicles to analyze malfunctions and diagnose issues.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures and environmentally friendly work habits during repairs and replacement of parts.
Conduct pre-emission checks and inspections of vehicles.
Ensure quality control of repairs and conduct road tests to verify the roadworthiness of vehicles.
