Job Overview:
The Chauffeur position at ONU Femmes involves providing reliable and safe driving services to ONU Femmes staff, UN officials, and visitors. The role requires adherence to the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as well as a strong understanding of protocol and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues. The Chauffeur will also be expected to demonstrate a customer-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and tact while working with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. Reporting to the Security Associate, the Chauffeur may also provide driving services to operational and program staff, consultants, and UN personnel on mission. Additionally, the Chauffeur will support basic administrative and office tasks at the ONU Femmes country office in the Central African Republic.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chauffeur's primary responsibilities include:
  • Providing reliable and secure driving services: Transport authorized personnel, deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items to government offices, embassies, commercial establishments, and UN offices; meet official staff and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs formalities as necessary; ensure all passengers wear seatbelts at all times; take immediate action as required by rules and regulations in case of accidents; adhere to ONU Femmes vehicle management policies.
  • Ensuring proper vehicle usage: Drive responsibly to contribute to environmental sustainability and cost reduction; maintain daily vehicle logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, maintenance, and repairs; assist in preparing vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Conducting daily vehicle maintenance: Ensure the official vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and in good working order; perform minor repairs and arrange for major repairs; check oil, tire depth and pressure, lights, indicators, wipers, horn, clutch, and brakes; address dashboard warning indicators promptly; organize and complete winterization of office vehicles as required.
  • Maintaining necessary documents/supplies: Ensure availability of all required documents and supplies, including vehicle insurance, logbooks, office directories, city/country maps, first aid kits, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; take immediate action as required by rules and regulations in case of accidents.
  • Providing general administrative and logistical support as needed: Assist office staff with filing, photocopying, and maintaining required records; help with the distribution of publications and payment of invoices as needed. The Chauffeur will also perform any other tasks relevant to their functional profile that are deemed necessary for the effective operation of the Office and the Organization. Supervision responsibilities include working under the direct supervision of the Security Associate.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications for the Chauffeur position include:
  • Education and certification: A secondary school diploma is required. A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record.
  • Skills: Excellent driving skills, good knowledge of driving rules and regulations, local roads and conditions, defensive driving skills, minor vehicle repair skills, and punctuality are essential.
  • Core values: Respect for diversity, integrity, and professionalism are fundamental values expected from candidates. Key competencies include awareness and sensitivity to gender issues, accountability, creative problem-solving, effective communication, inclusivity, collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and leading by example.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Chauffeur position includes a secondary school diploma. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and tasks associated with the role, as well as for effective communication and interaction with various stakeholders.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience as a driver, specifically within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system. This experience should include a proven track record of safe driving practices and familiarity with the operational protocols of such organizations.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is French, which is essential for communication within the Central African Republic. Proficiency in English is considered a significant asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, or Russian) is desirable, further increasing the candidate's competitiveness for the role.
