Job Overview:
The Senior IT Assistant position is crucial for supporting the IT infrastructure within the UNHCR offices. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of a Senior Officer and the technical supervision of an IT Officer. This role involves overseeing the daily activities of Telecom Operators and maintaining effective working relationships with UNHCR staff and partners. The Senior IT Assistant is expected to implement standards for applications that meet user needs, monitor and maintain network systems, and ensure quick recovery from ICT problems. The position also requires training staff on various communication systems and maintaining an inventory of ICT equipment. The role is essential for ensuring that the IT systems are efficient, reliable, and secure, thereby enabling UNHCR to fulfill its mission effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior IT Assistant include assisting in the implementation of ICT standards, monitoring and maintaining LAN and network servers, carrying out installations and maintenance of ICT equipment, ensuring quick recovery from ICT issues, training staff on communication systems, maintaining inventory of ICT equipment, drafting technical documentation, certifying invoices, evaluating needs for upgrading ICT equipment, and managing risks associated with ICT operations. The incumbent will also be responsible for escalating unresolved incidents and supporting the identification and management of risks impacting objectives in the area of responsibility. Additionally, the Senior IT Assistant will perform other related duties as required, ensuring that all tasks align with UNHCR's core values and regulatory framework.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or 1 year of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential qualifications include relevant experience in the ICT field, particularly in maintaining and managing IT infrastructure. Desirable qualifications include hands-on experience with wireless and VoIP systems, as well as knowledge of electricity and generators. The candidate should possess strong IT skills, particularly in computer literacy, and be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a High School Diploma as a minimum requirement, with a Bachelor’s degree or higher being advantageous. The educational background should ideally include fields related to Information Technology or Telecommunications, as these are critical for the effective performance of the role. Certifications in relevant areas such as Telecommunication and Information Technology are also essential for this position.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in the ICT field, particularly in roles that involve managing and maintaining IT infrastructure. Experience in a multicultural environment, especially within international organizations or UN agencies, is highly desirable. The candidate should also have a proven track record of effectively supporting users and managing ICT systems in a professional setting.

Languages:
Knowledge of English is mandatory, and proficiency in the UN working language of the duty station is required if it is not English. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language is essential. Familiarity with local languages is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the local context.
