In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment: > Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) > International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) > Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI) > United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) The main roles of UN Women are: > To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms. > To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society. > To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview:
The Programme Associate position at UN Women involves supporting the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in implementing and managing programs aimed at preventing gender-based violence in Southeast Asia. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including UNFPA and DFAT, to ensure effective program delivery. The Programme Associate will be responsible for financial management, operational support, and administrative tasks, contributing to the overall success of the initiatives aimed at empowering women and addressing violence against them. This position is crucial in facilitating the implementation of the UN Joint Programme, which focuses on policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for program formulation and management, including preparing work plans, budgets, and proposals.
  • Offer technical guidance on routine delivery and reporting of program activities and finances.
  • Prepare for audits and implement recommendations.
  • Gather and compile data for documents and reports.
  • Support financial management by creating projects in the Quantum system, monitoring budgets, and processing payments.
  • Organize logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and training for staff and partners.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary education is required, with a bachelor's degree in business or public administration considered an asset. Candidates should have at least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in administration or program management/support. Proficiency in using multiple office software packages and experience in financial management and procurement processes are also required. Familiarity with modern web-based ERP systems, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education, and a bachelor's degree in business or public administration is preferred. This educational background supports the administrative and financial management aspects of the role, ensuring that the Programme Associate can effectively contribute to the organization's goals.

Experience:
The position requires at least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in administration or program management/support. Candidates should have experience working in a computer environment with various office software packages and supporting a team. Experience with financial management and procurement processes is also desirable, as is familiarity with modern web-based ERP systems.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Thai is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the diverse international environment of UN Women.
