Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The UNFPA office in Djibouti partners with governments, other institutions, and civil society to implement its mandate. The organization is guided by two frameworks: the Programme of Action adopted at the International Conference on Population and Development in 1994 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UNFPA focuses on three priority areas: sexual and reproductive health, human rights and gender equality, and population and development issues. It provides technical and financial support to the country in collecting, analyzing, and disseminating population data to facilitate effective decision-making.

Job Overview:
The position of Community Volunteer for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) outreach is crucial in the context of the ongoing conflict in Yemen, which has led to an influx of Yemeni refugees into the Obock region. The volunteer will serve as a daily link between women and adolescent girls at the Markazi site and specialized GBV services provided by UNFPA and its partners. This role is essential for building trust and ensuring that women and girls have access to vital services. The volunteer will conduct outreach activities, provide information on rights and available services, and support the establishment of safe spaces for women and girls. The volunteer will also be responsible for ensuring that survivors of violence receive appropriate referrals and support, contributing to the overall safety and well-being of the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Community Volunteer will perform various tasks under the direct supervision of the UNFPA GBV focal point and in coordination with UNHCR, ONARS, and other protection actors. Key responsibilities include conducting daily outreach activities to inform women and adolescent girls about their rights and available services, providing psychological first aid in response to disclosures of violence, facilitating access to dignity kits, participating in GBV security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security audits, and ensuring that the outreach is integrated with community awareness actions. The volunteer will also serve as a trusted contact point for the community, collecting feedback on service accessibility and quality, and ensuring that the principles of safety, confidentiality, and respect are upheld in all interactions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. They should possess excellent communication skills, particularly in engaging with vulnerable populations. The ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including community leaders and service providers, is essential. The volunteer should be adaptable, culturally sensitive, and capable of working in challenging environments. A strong understanding of GBV issues and the local context is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, public health, gender studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the issues surrounding gender-based violence and the rights of women and girls. Training in psychological first aid and GBV response protocols will be provided, but prior knowledge in these areas is an advantage.

Experience:
While prior experience in community outreach or volunteer work is beneficial, it is not mandatory. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a willingness to learn and engage with the community actively. Experience working with refugees or in humanitarian settings is a plus, as it provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by displaced populations.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Djibouti. Proficiency in Arabic or English is considered an asset, as it enhances communication with diverse community members and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a volunteer role under the UNV program, which provides a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of DJF 118533.33, medical and life insurance, and free access to various learning platforms. The role is full-time and requires a commitment to the principles of the UN, including respect for diversity and the promotion of gender equality. The volunteer will work closely with other UN volunteers to ensure continuity in the delivery of GBV services.
