Job Overview:
The Internal Audit Senior Associate position is designed to support the Internal Audit and Investigations Group (IAIG) by managing and integrating various audit processes. This role encompasses program development, fieldwork, and post-audit administration, ensuring the integrity, quality, and timeliness of audit engagements. The incumbent will apply professional audit standards and contribute to the continuous improvement of IAIG's practices. This position offers the opportunity to develop specialized knowledge in internal auditing and to guide junior colleagues or oversee specific audit-related tasks. The Internal Audit Senior Associate will perform specialized audit activities, manage assigned audit processes, and ensure the accurate and timely completion of work, contributing to the efficiency and quality of audit processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Internal Audit Activities: Support the development of risk-based audit programs for assigned engagements, conduct audit fieldwork, prepare working papers, draft sections of audit reports, and participate in audit missions to UNOPS offices.
  • Project Audit Support: Review terms of reference and audit reports from outsourced auditors, support quality assurance of project audit documentation, and provide procedural guidance to project offices.
  • General Contributions and Responsibilities: Manage post-audit administrative activities, monitor the status of agreed management actions, use data analysis tools to support audit activities, maintain professional relationships with auditees, compile budget information, and contribute to the development of audit tools and resources.
  • Perform other related duties as required, including supporting forensic reviews and special audits.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary education (high school diploma) with 7 years of relevant experience is required. A university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Audit, or a related field is desirable and may reduce the required years of relevant experience. A professional accounting or auditing certification is an asset. Relevant experience in audit, assurance, compliance, risk management, or related fields is required, with experience in the United Nations system or international organizations being desirable. Familiarity with cloud-based productivity tools and ERP systems is also beneficial.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education, with a high school diploma being the minimum requirement. A university degree in a relevant field such as Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Audit is preferred and may reduce the years of required experience. Professional certifications in accounting or auditing are considered advantageous and can enhance a candidate's profile.

Experience:
The position requires relevant experience defined as experience in audit, assurance, compliance, risk management, or other fields related to audit work. Candidates should have experience working with the United Nations system, international organizations, or international NGOs. Familiarity with cloud-based productivity tools and experience using ERP systems are desirable, as well as exposure to data analytics and continuous auditing methodologies.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in French and Spanish is desirable. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English, with additional language skills being an asset that can enhance collaboration and communication within diverse teams.

The position is classified as an Associate level role (ICS 07) and is a full-time staff position under a Fixed-Term Appointment (FTA).
