Job Overview: The Junior Information Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of UN-Habitat's projects in Brazil, particularly focusing on the Social Territories Program aimed at addressing urban poverty in Rio de Janeiro. This position requires close collaboration with various teams to achieve project objectives and organizational priorities. The incumbent will be responsible for data management, including the collection, analysis, and presentation of urban indicators and statistics. The role also involves organizing capacity-building activities for UN-Habitat staff and government personnel, contributing to the overall enhancement of institutional capacity in urban planning and development. The Junior Information Assistant will be expected to maintain organized documentation related to project activities and ensure compliance with UN-Habitat's quality standards and ethical principles throughout their work.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Information Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1) Contributing to the development and calculation of variables and indicators for project evaluation. 2) Extracting and organizing data from public databases, presenting findings in various formats such as tables and graphs. 3) Assisting in the organization of training sessions for UN-Habitat and government staff. 4) Engaging in data collection and analysis to support project activities. 5) Preparing internal and partner reports at different stages of project implementation. 6) Facilitating the exchange of successful practices with other regional offices. 7) Maintaining organized records of project activities and documentation. 8) Participating in meetings and forums as required. 9) Monitoring deliverables according to the work plan. 10) Documenting meetings and training events. 11) Upholding ethical principles and promoting inclusive learning environments. 12) Completing administrative tasks as assigned by the Head of the Brazil Office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School Diploma along with two years of relevant technical experience. A Bachelor's degree in fields such as Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, or Statistics is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, is required, along with familiarity with programming languages like R or Python and GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS. Experience with data visualization tools and project management methodologies is also beneficial. Previous experience in the United Nations system is an advantage, highlighting the importance of understanding international organizational dynamics.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma. However, candidates with a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, or Statistics will be preferred. Additional technical training or certifications related to data analysis or urban studies may also be beneficial.
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in data analysis, report generation, and information management for public policy is required. Candidates should have practical experience in data collection, processing, and analysis, particularly within the Brazilian context. Familiarity with urban development issues and previous work experience in international organizations, especially the United Nations, will be considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication within the local context. Proficiency in English and French is also required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Spanish is advantageous, particularly for collaboration with the Regional Office.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is expected to last for six months. The contract is local, meaning only Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The role may require official travel within Brazil, subject to project needs and prior authorization. Remuneration will be determined according to UNOPS Local ICA or UNDP salary scales.
