Job Overview:
The Junior Communications Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of UN-Habitat's projects, particularly the Social Territories Program aimed at addressing urban poverty in Rio de Janeiro. This position involves close collaboration with various teams to achieve project objectives and organizational priorities. The assistant will be responsible for organizing events, managing content, and disseminating information related to the program. The role requires a proactive approach to communication, ensuring that all outputs align with UN-Habitat's quality expectations and project requirements. The assistant will also be involved in monitoring deliverables and maintaining organized records of project activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Junior Communications Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: participating in the organization of events and workshops, contributing to publication activities, disseminating advocacy materials, covering workshops with visual content, producing human impact stories, maintaining an organized documentation system, delivering communication activities on time, preparing reports according to Brazilian standards, ensuring communication outputs meet quality expectations, monitoring project deliverables, and upholding ethical principles throughout the assignment. Additionally, the assistant will perform administrative duties as assigned by the Head of the Brazil Office and complete required training courses.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma along with two years of relevant technical experience. A Bachelor's degree in Communications or a related field is desirable. Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search tools is required, along with a good understanding of project management methodologies. Professionalism, planning and organization skills, effective communication, and teamwork are essential competencies for this role.

Educational Background:
A High School Diploma is required, with additional technical experience being beneficial. A Bachelor's degree in Communications or a related field is preferred, indicating a solid educational foundation for the responsibilities of the position.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience in communications and advocacy within Brazil is required. Previous experience working with the United Nations is considered an asset, as it demonstrates familiarity with the organization's operations and standards.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for communication within the local context. Proficiency in English and French is beneficial, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is expected to last for six months. The incumbent may be required to travel within Brazil as per project needs, and all travel will adhere to United Nations policies. The remuneration will be determined according to the UNOPS Local ICA or UNDP salary scale. This appointment is on a local basis, and only Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply.
