Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Associate G6 position is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of WFP staff, facilities, and operations in Harare, Zimbabwe. The role involves implementing and assessing security measures, maintaining security equipment, and providing updates and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making. The Security Associate will be responsible for reviewing security threats and risks, compiling reports on trends that could impact WFP operations, and ensuring that security-related information is accurately collated and communicated to senior security staff. This position requires a proactive approach to security management, including liaising with local authorities and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure safe program delivery. The Security Associate will also conduct security assessments during field missions, analyze reports, and provide recommendations for risk mitigation. Additionally, the role includes advising the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director on security risk management matters and supporting the implementation of risk management measures in compliance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS). Overall, the Security Associate plays a vital role in maintaining a secure environment for WFP operations and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review security threats and risks in detail and compile accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations, ensuring information is accurately collated and sent to senior security staff to support reporting and decision-making.
  • Review security-related information, including incidents and events, and use corporate or local information management tools to produce analyses and in-depth reports for relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaise and coordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN/NGO security staff, and other actors to facilitate access for safe program delivery and mitigate potential risks against staff and resources.
  • Plan and coordinate staff activities during field missions and perform security assessments within the area of responsibility to support safe and effective program delivery.
  • Analyze security assessment reports following field missions and present detailed recommendations for risk mitigation to support security situation analysis and facilitate decision-making.
  • Assist in advising the Country Director on security risk management matters and safety issues in compliance with the UNSMS.
  • Support the implementation of risk management mitigation measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) to ensure compliance.
  • Support the maintenance and management of security equipment and make recommendations to strengthen technology capacity in line with business requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure that all access control procedures are effective and stringently followed by all staff and visitors to maintain a safe and secure environment. 1
  • Maintain and develop recommendations for improving emergency and contingency planning documentation, including physical preparations and procedures, to support preparedness for a crisis. 1
  • Deliver security training to staff and review security training needs to develop measures that meet business requirements.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires completion of secondary school education, along with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area. Candidates should possess sound knowledge of security operations technical processes and have experience providing technical guidance and training to staff members within their area of expertise. A broad understanding of security logistics, security administration, risk assessment, and coordination with local authorities and law enforcement agencies is essential. Candidates should also have specialized knowledge of practical methods, techniques, procedures, and systems used in security, typically gained through technical training and work experience. Additionally, training and experience in fire and related intervention/evacuation procedures are necessary, along with the ability to manage emergency situations calmly and effectively. Attention to detail and constant vigilance are crucial for promptly detecting any breaches in security measures, and excellent communication skills are required for maintaining correspondence with internal staff and external authorities regarding security advisories and incidents.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education and possess a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of security operations and for effectively performing the duties associated with the Security Associate position.

Experience:
Candidates should have six or more years of progressively responsible work experience in a relevant business stream, with a focus on general administrative work. This level of experience is necessary to ensure that the candidate is well-versed in the complexities of security operations and can effectively contribute to the safety and security of WFP staff and operations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with a level C proficiency required for general service positions at headquarters. Depending on the location of the post or area of responsibility, fluency or intermediate knowledge of another official language may also be required. For field positions, fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station is essential, as well as proficiency in the local language if it differs from the UN language.
