Job Overview: The Programme Policy Officer (Nutrition) position is based in Harare and reports to the Programme Policy Officer, Cross Cutting. This role is crucial for overseeing nutrition-related programming activities within the WFP framework. The officer will be responsible for liaising with nutrition specialists from other UN agencies, particularly UNICEF, to design, plan, and implement nutrition programs that align with WFP's strategic objectives and national priorities. The officer will also provide technical support for nutrition interventions, ensuring they are effectively integrated with other program aspects such as food security, social protection, and emergency response. The position requires a proactive approach to analyzing nutrition data, identifying trends, and making strategic recommendations to enhance program effectiveness. The officer will also be involved in preparing reports and engaging with various stakeholders to support coordinated nutrition programming and policy development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The key accountabilities for this role include:
Liaising with nutrition specialists in other UN agencies to support the design and implementation of nutrition programs.
Providing technical support to ensure effective integration of nutrition interventions with other program aspects.
Supporting nutrition assessments and data collection to ensure high-quality evidence for program planning.
Analyzing nutrition and program performance data to identify trends and gaps.
Preparing reports, briefs, and donor updates to support management decision-making.
Establishing partnerships with government ministries, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
Supporting national counterparts in strengthening capacities in nutrition program design and implementation.
Representing WFP in technical working groups and coordination forums.
Contributing to resource mobilization efforts through the development of concept notes and project proposals. 1
Performing other duties as required in support of WFP's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be acceptable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of nutrition programming and its integration with other sectors.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in a relevant field is required, with a focus on international development assistance. A first university degree may be acceptable if accompanied by significant relevant experience. Continuous professional development through training and courses related to nutrition and program management is highly valued.
Experience: Candidates should have at least one year of postgraduate professional experience in program or project implementation, particularly in emergency preparedness and public health or food security. Experience in identifying and defining nutrition issues within a country context is essential, along with exposure to national and international development programs.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in the local language of the duty station (if different) is also required. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not mandatory.
