Job Overview: The Investment Specialist position is situated within the Portfolio Management Division of the Private Sector Operations Department at ADB. The role involves managing designated debt and guarantee accounts across various sectors, including infrastructure, agribusiness, and social projects in Asia and the Pacific. The Investment Specialist will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of assigned accounts, ensuring effective communication with clients, and maintaining a proactive approach to identify and resolve issues. The position requires a strong focus on portfolio management, risk assessment, and compliance with financial terms and covenants. The Investment Specialist will also contribute to strategy and planning initiatives, engage in external liaison and knowledge sharing, and lead diverse teams to ensure high-quality work and professional development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Investment Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Management of Accounts: Taking primary responsibility for assigned accounts, maintaining a proactive approach to identify emerging issues, escalating material problems, and coordinating solutions with clients and stakeholders. Preparing and reviewing consent, waiver, and amendment requests, as well as conducting annual reviews and ratings.
Portfolio Management: Monitoring the assigned portfolio for project implementation, compliance with financial terms, and assessing risks. Leading the identification of mitigation plans and supporting restructuring activities. Ensuring compliance with safeguards requirements and leading portfolio reviews and assessments.
Strategy and Planning: Preparing and monitoring portfolio management plans, designing tools and processes for improved monitoring and risk identification, and contributing insights to country partnership strategies.
External Liaison and Knowledge Sharing: Building relationships with stakeholders, analyzing trends, and representing the division in forums.
Staff Management: Leading teams, setting clear goals, providing feedback, and supporting team members' professional growth.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in finance, economics, or a related field, preferably at the post-graduate level or its equivalent. They should have at least 6 years of relevant work experience in corporate finance, project finance, credit, or portfolio management, with a proven track record of managing transactions or accounts across multiple countries. Advanced skills in credit analysis, financial modeling, and risk management are essential, along with the ability to lead negotiations and build consensus among diverse stakeholders. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required, particularly for preparing clear documentation and conveying complex issues to senior decision-makers.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in finance, economics, or a related field. A post-graduate degree or equivalent qualification is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the financial landscape relevant to the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 6 years of professional experience in areas such as corporate finance, project finance, credit, or portfolio management. Candidates should have a strong background in managing transactions or accounts and demonstrate advanced capabilities in credit analysis and risk management. Experience in leading negotiations and managing relationships with various stakeholders is also crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills necessary for preparing documentation and engaging with stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the Asia-Pacific region.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 additional years or conversion to a regular appointment based on performance and organizational needs. The position is full-time and based at ADB's headquarters in Manila, Philippines.
