Job Overview: The Investment Specialist position is a critical role within the Equity Investments Unit of the Private Sector Operations Department at ADB. The successful candidate will lead the Deal Team and play a pivotal role in developing a top-tier equity asset and portfolio management function. This position requires a strong focus on origination and processing of equity investments, managing due diligence processes, and providing strategic advice on equity structuring and valuation. The Investment Specialist will also be responsible for portfolio management, ensuring the financial health and development impact of assigned accounts, and leading the development of a robust portfolio management strategy. The role involves external liaison with financial intermediaries and institutional investors, as well as staff management, where the specialist will oversee junior team members and support their professional development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Investment Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Origination and Processing: Originate equity investments, manage the due diligence process, and provide advice on direct equity structuring, valuation, and bidding strategies.
Portfolio Management: Assume primary responsibility for assigned accounts, monitor financial health and development impact, review key documents, and ensure compliance with ADB's shareholder agreement rights and environmental safeguards.
Strategy and Planning: Lead the development of a sound portfolio management strategy.
Knowledge Center for Governance, Risk Advisory, and Development Impact: Introduce international best practices in corporate governance and risk management at investee companies.
External Liaison and Knowledge Sharing: Develop relationships with financial intermediaries and analyze market trends.
Staff Management: Provide direction, monitor performance, and support staff development.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in business administration, finance, or related fields, preferably at the post-graduate level or its equivalent. A minimum of 6 years of experience in the private sector, specifically in origination, processing, and portfolio management related to equity and capital markets, is required. The ideal candidate should have international experience in emerging markets, strong structuring and financing capabilities, and expertise in financial modeling and risk management. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, particularly in business writing, are essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in business administration, finance, or a related field. A post-graduate degree or equivalent is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of complex financial concepts and practices.
Experience: The position requires at least 6 years of relevant experience in the private sector, focusing on equity origination, processing, and portfolio management. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in diverse international environments, particularly in emerging markets, and should be adept at leading negotiations and managing teams effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills being crucial for the role. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working with diverse stakeholders across the Asia-Pacific region.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 years or conversion to a regular appointment based on performance and organizational needs. The position is full-time and requires relocation to Manila, with all reasonable relocation expenses covered.
