Job Overview:
The Food Technologist position at WFP is a critical role focused on supporting the implementation of projects aimed at enhancing nutrition and food technology in West and Central Africa. The incumbent will be responsible for providing operational expertise in nutrition and food technology, particularly in the areas of food fortification and the development of nutritious food initiatives. This role requires a high degree of independence and technical support for food processing initiatives, contributing to the Nutrition Value Chain portfolio. The Food Technologist will work closely with the FQS Team Leader and the Regional Nutrition Advisor, engaging in projects such as 'RICE UP' and 'Systemic Innovation in Small Scale Fortification in Burkina Faso.' These projects aim to combat malnutrition through innovative food fortification strategies and the mobilization of small-scale rice millers to improve food quality and accessibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Food Technologist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting comprehensive analyses of national requirements and rice value chain dynamics; strengthening miller cooperatives as shared service platforms for fortification; facilitating the procurement and installation of blending equipment; providing technical assistance to cooperatives for supply chain management; establishing quality assurance systems; promoting market development and demand creation; and ensuring a phased transition toward cooperative ownership of fortified rice production. Specific deliverables include mapping rice trade routes, assessing strategic locations for blending operations, evaluating policies and regulations affecting fortified rice integration, and analyzing institutional demand programs to align blending points with these initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in food technology, food engineering, agrobusiness, health sciences, or nutrition. The position requires at least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in a similar field, preferably with previous experience in the WACARO region. Candidates should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, mature judgment, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of fortification, food technology, and processed food is essential, along with an understanding of trade routes and policy advocacy in the WACA region.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in Food Technology, Food Engineering, Agrobusiness, Health Sciences, Nutrition, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively contribute to the projects and initiatives undertaken by WFP in the region.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, which may include roles in food technology, nutrition, or related fields. Experience working in the WACARO region is highly desirable, as it provides insight into the specific challenges and opportunities present in the area. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully managing projects and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and French is mandatory for this position, as these languages are essential for effective communication within the organization and with external partners. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.
