Job Overview: The UN MarketingIntern position is an unpaid, full-time internship located in the Sales and Marketing Section of the Outreach Division within the Department of Global Communications in New York City. The Outreach Division's primary goal is to engage and educate communities globally to garner support for the ideals and activities of the United Nations. The Sales and Marketing Section specifically focuses on promoting UN knowledge and outreach objectives through the publication, sale, distribution, and licensing of print and electronic materials. Interns will work under the supervision of the Marketing Officer and will be involved in various projects aimed at enhancing the marketing reach and audience engagement of United Nations Publications. This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to publishing, marketing, communications, and audience analytics within an international organization, allowing interns to gain valuable experience in these fields.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will undertake a variety of projects, including conducting research and analysis of current marketing practices and audience engagement trends related to United Nations Publications. They will prepare recommendations for enhancing outreach and contribute to the development of integrated marketing campaigns for selected publications or target audience segments. Interns will also support the preparation of promotional materials and draft content for web and social media platforms, gaining experience in digital content creation. Additionally, they will assist in designing and analyzing surveys to assess audience awareness and engagement, compile and analyze data from existing sources to identify trends, and participate in planning public outreach initiatives or events. A final project presentation summarizing research findings and proposed strategies will also be required.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program, be in the final academic year of a first university degree program, or have graduated with a university degree. Applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications and demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, along with a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. They must also show the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs. No prior work experience is required, but a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary.
Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate program or in their final year of undergraduate studies, or have completed a university degree. The educational background should ideally be in fields related to marketing, communications, international relations, or similar areas that align with the responsibilities of the internship.
Experience: No prior work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that relates to marketing, communications, or international relations, which will help them succeed in the role.
