Job Overview:
The Financial Sector Expert/Senior Financial Sector Expert position within the Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM) of the IMF is a critical role focused on enhancing the financial stability of member countries. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and reviewing the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP), which includes conducting financial stability risk assessments. This role involves developing policies and instruments that integrate FSAP findings with other financial surveillance activities. The expert will also be tasked with creating and evaluating analytical tools for assessing financial stability, including stress testing of banks and nonbank financial institutions, and analyzing climate-related financial risks. A significant aspect of this position is to lead efforts in understanding the financial stability implications of insurance protection gaps and natural disasters, which can exacerbate vulnerabilities and affect financial resilience. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Financial Sector Expert/Senior Financial Sector Expert include:
  • Managing and reviewing the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) and conducting financial stability risk assessments.
  • Developing and implementing FSAP policies and instruments to enhance financial surveillance activities.
  • Creating, applying, and evaluating analytical tools for financial stability assessment, including stress testing methodologies and climate-related financial risk analysis.
  • Leading research on the interactions between insurers and banks, focusing on the implications of insurance protection gaps and natural disasters.
  • Participating in FSAP missions and other surveillance activities, providing technical assistance and capacity development to member countries.
  • Designing and delivering training programs for member countries.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, external researchers, and senior IMF staff to advance the division's objectives.
  • Undertaking policy-oriented research to inform the IMF's analytical framework.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this position must possess an advanced university degree, with a Ph.D. preferred, in economics, finance, or a related field. They should have at least four years of relevant professional work experience in financial stability assessment, particularly concerning insurance protection gaps and risks from natural disasters. A strong background in developing innovative analytical approaches to assess financial sector vulnerabilities is essential. Additionally, experience with coding and the use of econometric, statistical, or quantitative simulation tools is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree in economics, finance, or a related field.
