Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Senior Director for Responsible Mining will play a pivotal role in leading and expanding Pact’s Responsible Mining practice. This position is integral to the Programs team, where the director will design and implement high-quality programs that are executed by expert staff. The focus will be on ensuring measurable impact and genuine community ownership, aligning with Pact’s ethos of engaged communities. The Senior Director will also be responsible for identifying strategic fundraising and partnership opportunities, working closely with the Chief Development Officer and the Business Development team. This role requires a commitment to empowering communities in the global race for critical minerals, while also addressing governance, peacebuilding, and market challenges. The position reports to the Vice President for Governance and Sustainable Markets and is part of Pact’s Senior Management Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Director will lead and manage the Responsible Mining team, fostering a collaborative culture and engaging constructively with other teams within Pact. Key responsibilities include overseeing project managers, serving as the project lead for high-priority initiatives, and developing a critical minerals strategy that drives organizational growth. The director will contribute to the Governance and Sustainable Markets team’s strategy, ensuring integrated programming that addresses governance and market challenges. Responsibilities also include business development for the Responsible Mining portfolio, cultivating relationships with funders, conducting market analysis, and leading proposal design. The director will enhance Pact’s visibility in the sector by managing relationships with peer networks, representing Pact at conferences, and developing technical resources for programming.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience, including 7 years in management. A minimum of 10 years of experience in managing multimillion-dollar portfolios of Responsible Mining projects is required. Technical expertise in areas such as responsible production, mineral traceability, governance, and community engagement is essential. Proven experience in managing teams and complex programs across diverse geographies is necessary, along with a documented success in fundraising and business development. Candidates should have an established network within the Responsible Mining sector and a strong understanding of trends related to critical minerals.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree is required for this position, with a preference for candidates who have a strong academic background in fields related to mining, development, or social sciences. Additional certifications or training in relevant areas may be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires extensive experience, specifically a minimum of 12 years in relevant roles, with at least 7 years in management. Candidates should have a proven track record in implementing and managing large-scale Responsible Mining projects, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex operational environments while maintaining community ownership and technical rigor.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French and/or Spanish, is preferred and will be considered an asset for candidates.

Additional Notes:
This is a hybrid role requiring two in-office days per week. The salary range for this position is estimated between $130,000 and $180,000, depending on various factors such as skills, experience, and internal equity. Pact is open to considering candidates based in the Washington, DC area or those residing in specific states where Pact is registered to employ staff, including CO, ID, MA, MD, MI, NV, and VA.
