Job Overview: The DMFAS Intern position is situated within the Debt Management and Financial Analysis Programme (DMFAS) of the Debt and Development Finance Branch at UNCTAD. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in the field of public debt management and financial analysis. The intern will work under the supervision of the Conference coordinator and will be involved in the preparatory work for the 15th Debt Management Conference and the DMFAS Programme Advisory Group meeting scheduled for December 202
The role can be performed either in-person in Geneva or remotely, depending on the intern's preference and circumstances. Interns are expected to assist with various administrative and logistical tasks related to the conference, as well as support the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the DMFAS Programme. This includes maintaining conference invitation and registration lists, responding to inquiries, assisting participants with travel preparations, and conducting research on current issues in public debt management.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's primary responsibilities will include:
Assisting in maintaining the conference invitation and registration lists to ensure accurate records of participants.
Responding to simple requests for information from conference participants and stakeholders.
Helping participants with their travel preparations, including logistical and visa requirements.
Liaising with resource persons and participants to facilitate communication and coordination.
Assisting in the preparation of documentation required for the conference.
Proofreading presentation slides to ensure clarity and accuracy.
Conducting research on the latest developments and key issues in public debt management and public finance, utilizing UNCTAD and UNOG library resources as well as online databases.
Completing any research and reporting work required by the intern's university, ensuring that academic obligations are met.
Observing all applicable rules and regulations of the UN and maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information. 1
Respecting the impartiality and independence of the UN and refraining from any conduct that could adversely reflect on the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates applying for the UN internship programme must meet specific qualifications. They should either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Additionally, applicants should demonstrate computer literacy in standard software applications and possess a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, along with a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is also essential, as is a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views. No prior work experience is required, but a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns must have a valid visa if they are participating in-person in Geneva.
