Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is a leading scientific research institution established to probe the fundamental structure of the universe. It employs physicists and engineers who utilize the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter. CERN's mission is to advance knowledge and understanding of the universe through groundbreaking research and innovation. The organization has a diverse workforce and operates in multiple countries, fostering an environment of collaboration and inclusion.

Job Overview:
As a Mechanical Technician at CERN, you will play a crucial role in the assembly and development of high-temperature superconducting magnets. This position involves working within a research and development program dedicated to advancing superconducting technologies. You will be responsible for producing high-temperature superconductor-based magnet coils, assembling models and prototypes, and managing component stocks. Your contributions will directly impact the design, manufacture, and assembly of superconducting coils and associated tooling, making this a vital role in the ongoing research at CERN.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Mechanical Technician will have a variety of responsibilities, including: producing high-temperature superconductor-based magnet coils; assembling superconducting magnet models, prototypes, and associated manufacturing tools; manufacturing and modifying mechanical parts using conventional machining techniques such as milling, turning, and forming; managing component stocks for assigned assemblies; initiating and following up on manufacturing requests and purchase orders; performing acceptance tests; preparing production and quality-control documentation, including procedures, test and measurement reports, and component traceability; and producing computer-aided design (CAD) drawings of components and tooling based on 3D models.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a technical certificate or general secondary education, or equivalent relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Hands-on experience in mechanical manufacturing and assembly of electromechanical equipment is essential, along with experience in preparing and using quality documentation, reading mechanical drawings, and familiarity with superconducting systems. Proficiency in mechanical CAD tools, particularly CATIA, is also desirable.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a technical certificate or general secondary education in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in mechanical principles and practices.

Experience:
Candidates should have hands-on experience in mechanical manufacturing and assembly, particularly with electromechanical equipment. Experience in preparing quality documentation, reading mechanical drawings, and working with superconducting systems will be advantageous. Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools is also required, with specific experience in CATIA being a plus.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language being essential for effective communication within the organization.

Additional Notes:
This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The job requires a valid driving license and may involve work in radiation-controlled areas and interventions in underground installations. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite. CERN offers a competitive salary that is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances.
