Job Overview:
The Communications Analyst position at UN Women in Kathmandu is a pivotal role that involves assisting in the planning and implementation of the office's communications and advocacy strategies. The primary goal of this position is to enhance the visibility and awareness of UN Women among partners, the media, and the public. The Communications Analyst will report directly to the UN Women Country Representative and will work closely with various teams within the Nepal Country Office (NCO), including programme, operations, and technical teams. This role requires a strategic approach to communication, ensuring that gender perspectives are integrated into all initiatives. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting communication needs assessments, analyzing requirements, and synthesizing proposals for communication strategies. The position also involves monitoring and analyzing media coverage, coordinating campaigns and events, and providing technical advice on communication initiatives. The Communications Analyst will play a crucial role in developing communication products and materials, managing media relations, and building partnerships with donors and civil society organizations. Additionally, the role includes maintaining the NCO's online presence and facilitating knowledge sharing within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Analyst will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
  • Planning and designing communication and outreach/advocacy strategies and plans tailored to the needs of the NCO.
  • Conducting communication needs assessments for various projects and programs, ensuring that gender perspectives are considered.
  • Analyzing requirements and synthesizing proposals for communication strategies.
  • Monitoring and analyzing print and social media, drafting reports based on findings.
  • Coordinating corporate and local campaigns and special events for UN Women and the UN system.
  • Developing and producing communication products such as briefing notes, press releases, human-interest stories, speeches, articles, and multimedia content.
  • Managing relationships with the media, organizing press conferences, roundtable discussions, and drafting media materials for senior management.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with donors and civil society organizations to enhance visibility and outreach.
  • Managing the NCO's website and social media accounts, ensuring compliance with corporate branding and editorial standards. 1
  • Facilitating knowledge building and sharing by identifying best practices and providing technical guidance and training to personnel and partners. 1
  • Supervising one Communications Associate and coordinating the work of consultants and other personnel engaged in communications-related initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Candidates must possess at least 5 years of professional work experience in public relations, communications, or advocacy. Experience in media relations is desirable, as is experience in the use of social media. Proficiency in using computers and office software packages (such as MS Word and Excel) is required, along with experience in handling web-based management systems. Experience in development communications, communications for social impact, gender equality advocacy, or work within the UN system and/or international organizations is also desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field. In cases where a candidate has a first-level university degree, they must also have two additional years of qualifying experience to be considered for the position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the Communications Analyst role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in public relations, communications, or advocacy. This experience should include a strong background in media relations and the use of social media platforms. Candidates should also have experience with computers and office software packages, as well as web-based management systems. Experience in development communications, communications for social impact, gender equality advocacy, or work within the UN system and/or international organizations is highly desirable and will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in both Nepali and English is required for this position. Additionally, knowledge of another official UN language (such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The position is full-time and involves direct supervision of one Communications Associate. The incumbent will be responsible for work planning, quality assurance of deliverables, performance feedback, and capacity development. The role may also require coordination of consultants and other personnel engaged in communications-related initiatives.
