Job Overview:
The Sustainable Infrastructure Specialist will play a crucial role in assessing the impacts of large-scale infrastructure projects on conservation efforts. This position requires a strategic approach to develop collaborative solutions that mitigate adverse effects on ecosystems and biodiversity. The Specialist will work under the supervision of the Conservation Program Director and will be responsible for enhancing the capacity of various stakeholders, including government agencies and civil society organizations, to promote sustainable green infrastructure. The role involves a comprehensive understanding of infrastructure development, particularly in relation to hydropower, roads, and urban growth, and necessitates a proactive approach to integrating climate change considerations into infrastructure planning and execution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support to assess and mitigate the impacts of infrastructure development on biodiversity, including wildlife and freshwater systems. This includes identifying planned infrastructure projects, reviewing environmental impacts, and preparing analytical reports.
• Collaborate with WWF's core team and external partners to promote green recovery strategies and integrate climate adaptation measures into infrastructure projects.
• Update senior management on infrastructure developments and environmental risks, synthesizing complex information for strategic decision-making.
• Build relationships with donors, developers, and government entities to enhance best practices in environmentally friendly infrastructure development.
• Support the development and field teams in implementing safeguard measures for infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with WWF's conservation goals.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress of infrastructure initiatives, contributing to performance reports and knowledge sharing.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to various stakeholders through reports and outreach events.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, contributing to the overall success of the department.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master’s degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering. A minimum of 5 years of experience in infrastructure development is required, with a strong background in environmental impact assessments. Experience in managing environmental issues related to roads, railways, and hydropower projects is preferred. Knowledge of green-resilient infrastructure development and climate change adaptation strategies is desirable. Strong analytical, facilitation, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.

Educational Background:
A master’s degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of infrastructure development and environmental management.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in infrastructure development, particularly in environmental impact assessments and management. Candidates should have a proven track record of working on projects related to roads, railways, transmission lines, and hydropower development, with a focus on sustainable practices.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this role. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it facilitates communication with local communities and stakeholders.
