Job Overview:
The Natural Resources Management Specialist position is a pivotal role within the World Bank's Environment Department, specifically focused on the South Asia Region. The specialist will report to the Environment Manager for South Asia, based in Singapore, and will work closely with the Environmental Coordinator and other colleagues from ENV and various units. The primary responsibilities include contributing to or leading the design and implementation of operational engagements and analytical products that address technical issues related to forested landscapes, nature-based tourism, and environmental management. The specialist will be expected to work according to an annual work plan, which may be adjusted periodically to meet evolving needs. This role is integral to the development and implementation of the ENV strategy in Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, with a focus on sustainable forestry, conservation, climate resilience, and pollution management. The specialist will also be responsible for providing inputs on country and sectoral briefs, policy notes, and strategy documents, ensuring that the work aligns with the development priorities of key clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Natural Resources Management Specialist will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:

• Contributing to the development and implementation of the ENV strategy in Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, focusing on forested landscapes, nature-based tourism, and environmental management.
• Providing inputs on country and sectoral briefs, policy notes, and strategy documents to support decision-making processes.
• Leading or contributing to the preparation and implementation of Technical Assistance tasks and investment programs supported by grants or IDA resources, collaborating with ENV and other departments across the World Bank Group.
• Serving as the focal point for Climate Co-Benefits (CCB) assessments within the country management unit, ensuring that climate considerations are integrated into project planning and execution.
• Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with key clients, delivering technical assistance, knowledge, and financing solutions that align with their environmental and natural resource development priorities.
• Proactively liaising with development partners to strengthen alignment across lending and technical assistance activities, fostering collaboration and shared objectives.
• Supporting the Unit’s work program outside of Nepal as needed, contributing to regional and global initiatives as agreed upon in the work program.

Required Qualifications:

Experience:

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the World Bank Group.
