Job Overview: The Project Management Support Associate (Environmental Technician) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of activities under the UNODC Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment. This position is vital for providing technical assistance in areas such as illegal logging, illegal mining, and other factors contributing to deforestation. The incumbent will work closely with the Environmental Team and relevant national counterparts to enhance institutional capacities for preventing, investigating, and prosecuting forest crimes. The role involves contributing to knowledge management, training, and information sharing by compiling and analyzing data, lessons learned, and best practices related to environmental crimes. The Associate will also support day-to-day project execution, including stakeholder coordination, organization of technical activities, and preparation of documentation and reports, ensuring compliance with organizational procedures and donor requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Project Management Support Associate include:
Supporting project planning activities, including stakeholder mapping and coordination with environmental, forestry, and justice sector institutions.
Assisting senior technical managers and the Project Coordinator in liaising with stakeholders, identifying needs, and strengthening capacities related to the program.
Providing inputs for the development of project documents, agreements, and revisions.
Offering technical and analytical support to project planning processes, including compiling information for stakeholder mapping and technical assistance.
Coordinating with stakeholders by preparing meeting materials, taking notes, and following up on agreed actions.
Maintaining and updating project tools, including progress tracking sheets and activity reports.
Providing logistical support for workshops, trainings, and meetings.
Supporting the preparation and formatting of technical materials and presentations.
Monitoring project activities and ensuring compliance with UNOPS and UNODC rules and donor requirements. 1
Coordinating procurement, travel, transport, and inventory management in support of project operations. 1
Supporting knowledge management activities, including documenting lessons learned and best practices in environmental crime programming.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the position include:
A secondary school diploma (or equivalent) with at least 6 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) preferably in environmental engineering, sciences, or natural resources with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
A globally recognized professional certificate or membership in Project Management or Environmental Management is desired but not mandatory.
Demonstrable proficiency in the use of collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based information management systems is required.
Relevant experience in operational and technical support to the planning, management, and delivery of project technical assistance in environmental projects or related fields is essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either a secondary school diploma with significant relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as environmental engineering, environmental sciences, or natural resources. The preferred educational qualifications would enhance the candidate's ability to perform effectively in the role, particularly in technical aspects related to environmental management and project execution.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position includes relevant operational and technical support experience in environmental projects, natural resources management, or related fields. Candidates should have a proven track record of supporting project planning, management, and delivery of technical assistance. Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in developing countries is desired, as well as experience in supporting training, workshops, or capacity-building activities. Familiarity with law enforcement and justice sector contexts is also beneficial.
Languages: The mandatory language requirement for this position is Spanish at a native proficiency level. Basic proficiency in English is desirable, which would facilitate communication in a multicultural work environment and enhance collaboration with international stakeholders.
