Job Overview:
The position of Paralegal at IDB Invest is designed for a dynamic and innovative individual who is eager to contribute to changing lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. The successful candidate will support the Financial Markets and Products Legal Team within the Legal Department (GCL/FML). The Legal Department plays a crucial role in advising Management, the Board of Executive Directors, and the Board of Governors on all legal matters related to IDB Invest. This includes providing comprehensive legal support for Non-Sovereign Guaranteed (NSG) operations throughout the entire transaction cycle, which encompasses origination, portfolio management, and workouts, as well as the development of new products. The GCL/FML Division specifically offers legal, regulatory, policy, and structuring support for transactions, products, and initiatives for financial intermediaries and corporates across various sectors during the origination, structuring, and supervision phases. The position requires collaboration with various teams to address a wide range of legal and regulatory issues, making it essential for the candidate to be proactive and detail-oriented.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Paralegal include assisting with the drafting and reviewing of legal documents pertinent to the Financial Markets and Products Legal Division of IDB Invest. This encompasses issues related to both domestic and international transactions during the origination and portfolio phases, as well as regulatory matters and strategic institutional initiatives. The Paralegal will provide support for portfolio administration, including amendments and waivers of financing documentation. Collaboration with GCL members and officers in origination and support teams is crucial to address various legal and regulatory issues. The role also involves assisting in the development and regular updating of model documentation and maintaining knowledge management tools for the Legal Department and the Financial Markets and Products Legal Division. Additionally, the Paralegal will assist in procuring external legal services, liaising with external counsel on transaction, corporate, and institutional matters, drafting retainer agreements, and tracking external counsel invoices. The position requires support for the administration of projects and initiatives managed by the Financial Markets and Products Legal Division, including the execution, notarization, and consularization of documents, as well as organizing, reviewing, and tracking conditions precedent and subsequent in agreements. The Paralegal will coordinate the filing of legal documents and records in accordance with IDB Invest’s policies and procedures, conduct research on various matters, review or prepare translations of IDB Invest documents, identify process improvement opportunities, promote knowledge sharing, and support the interpretation of IDB Invest policies and procedures. Other activities may be assigned by the supervisor, including supporting GCL’s delivery of training on non-sovereign guaranteed operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and possess knowledge and substantive legal experience in both Civil and Common law systems. The position requires a strong understanding of legal principles and practices, as well as the ability to navigate complex legal issues effectively. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required for this position. The educational background should include a focus on law, with an emphasis on both Civil and Common law systems to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the legal frameworks relevant to IDB Invest's operations.

Experience:
Candidates should have between 2 to 5 years of progressive experience in legal roles. This experience should ideally include exposure to financial markets, regulatory compliance, and transactional law, providing a solid foundation for the responsibilities associated with the Paralegal position.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in one of the other official languages of the Bank, which include Spanish, French, or Portuguese. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication within the diverse environment of IDB Invest.

Additional Notes:
The position is classified as a national consultant role, requiring full-time commitment for a duration of 19 months, with the possibility of extension up to 48 months if applicable. Candidates must be eligible to work in Peru without the need for sponsorship and should not have any family members working at IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity.
