Job Overview:
The position of Consultant is integral to the implementation of the Horizontes Amazonía program, which aims to provide a comprehensive educational proposal for adolescents in the Amazon regions of Peru. The consultant will work closely with local organizations, educational institutions, and government authorities to strengthen pedagogical capacities and promote intercultural education. The role requires a focus on achieving measurable results through collaboration with indigenous, youth, and women's organizations, ensuring that educational strategies are culturally relevant and sustainable. The consultant will also be responsible for developing and validating educational materials and facilitating dialogue among various stakeholders to enhance educational outcomes in the targeted regions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Strengthening and facilitating the participation of local organizations by reviewing technical products and deliverables, coordinating selection processes, and providing technical assistance to enhance their capacity for advocacy and dialogue on educational issues.
  • Acting as a technical focal point for assigned regions, monitoring program implementation, and providing support to territorial partners in designing and implementing intercultural educational strategies.
  • Developing technical proposals and reference materials for educational sessions on climate change and indigenous knowledge, and supporting the validation and adjustment of these materials for use in educational institutions.
  • Representing the Horizontes Amazonía program in various communities of practice and facilitating inter-learning networks among educators.
  • Documenting progress, challenges, and recommendations throughout the consultancy period, ensuring that all products meet UNESCO's quality standards and are submitted on time.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, Economics, or related fields. A postgraduate degree in public management, bilingual intercultural education, or related areas is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have over six years of professional experience, with at least five years in projects or consultancies related to education for indigenous populations or intercultural teacher training. Experience in social projects as an advisor or consultant is also required, with a preference for those who have worked with indigenous or Amazonian communities.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Education, Social Sciences, or Economics. A postgraduate degree in areas related to public management or bilingual intercultural education is highly desirable, as it aligns with the program's focus on enhancing educational practices in culturally diverse contexts.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of professional experience, with a strong emphasis on experience in the education sector. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in projects or consultancies that focus on education for indigenous populations or involve intercultural training for teachers. Experience in managing multiple social projects and working with indigenous or Amazonian communities will be considered a significant advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly indigenous languages or English, would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with diverse communities and stakeholders effectively.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration is eleven months, subject to budget availability and satisfactory performance evaluation. The position is open to external candidates, and applicants must be entitled to work in Peru. The consultant is expected to travel within and outside the country as needed for the program, with travel costs covered by UNESCO.
