Job Overview:
The Pharmacist position within WHO's Health Emergencies Programme is crucial for ensuring the effective management of pharmaceuticals during health emergencies. The role involves coordinating logistical arrangements for the procurement, import, storage, and delivery of medicines and medical products. The pharmacist will be responsible for securing warehouse management, including inventory control and adherence to WHO guidelines on good storage and distribution practices. This includes monitoring product quality, managing cold chain logistics, and ensuring compliance with stock management protocols. The pharmacist will also conduct analyses to assess pharmaceutical needs, participate in training for healthcare staff, and support procurement processes while ensuring compliance with WHO regulations. The position requires collaboration with government institutions to facilitate customs clearance and quality control of procured medicines, ultimately aiming to improve access to essential medicines and minimize stockouts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate logistical arrangements for the procurement, import, storage, and delivery of medicines and medical products.
• Manage warehouse operations, ensuring compliance with WHO guidelines on inventory control and storage conditions.
• Conduct basic analyses to evaluate pharmaceutical needs and forecast essential medicine requirements.
• Participate in training sessions for public health staff and partners on national medicines policy and supply chain management.
• Support local and international procurement processes, identifying potential suppliers and ensuring adherence to WHO procurement rules.
• Collaborate with government institutions for customs clearance and quality control of medicines.
• Plan and monitor the distribution of WHO procured medicines and medical supplies, assessing pharmaceutical needs to improve access and availability.

Required Qualifications:
Essential: A first-level university degree in Pharmacy or health logistics and supply chain management. Desirable: A degree in public health or clinical pharmacy. Candidates should possess knowledge of WHO's mandate, policies, and procedures, as well as the ability to prepare clear and precise documentation. Skills in developing pharmaceutical policies and strategies, along with management of drug regulatory and supply chain processes, are essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently under pressure and deliver quality results amidst conflicting priorities.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a first-level university degree in Pharmacy or health logistics and supply chain management. A degree in public health or clinical pharmacy is desirable, indicating a strong foundation in both pharmaceutical sciences and public health principles.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least one year of experience in national drug policy programs and administration. Experience in public health or emergency management is desirable, as is experience working with UN organizations, international institutions, or NGOs, which is considered an asset.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English and Arabic is essential for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a National Professional Officer role, meaning that only applications from nationals of Sudan will be accepted. The remuneration for this position starts at an annual base salary of USD 38,762, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Staff members are entitled to 30 days of annual leave.
