Job Overview: The MEP Project Manager will be responsible for supporting the development of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) requirements for various projects aimed at optimizing workplace conditions and increasing the capacity of NATO Headquarters. This role involves acting as a key technical interface among NATO stakeholders, delivery agencies, consultants, contractors, facility management teams, and end-users. The incumbent will engage in design reviews, procurement support, work supervision, commissioning, handover, and integration into facility operations. The position requires a proactive approach to project management, ensuring that MEP activities align with the agreed scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and operational constraints. The MEP Project Manager will also be tasked with developing innovative solutions to enhance MEP systems and improve workplace conditions, thereby contributing to the overall mission of NATO.
Duties and Responsibilities: The MEP Project Manager will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: reviewing existing infrastructure and evaluating workplace needs to identify opportunities for improvement in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing efficiencies; participating in the drafting of specifications, bills of quantities, drawings, and works sequences from preliminary design phases to tendering dossiers and implementation phase documentation; supporting the delivery of MEP activities in accordance with established parameters; maintaining accurate technical records; contributing to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives; providing reliable MEP expertise for assigned HQ adaptation and infrastructure projects; developing and proposing innovative solutions to optimize MEP systems; performing quality control of documentation and activities linked to projects; planning and conducting technical visits at all project phases; preparing, reviewing, and managing all documentation related to MEP project management; contributing to project cost estimates and Quantity Surveyor activities; reviewing and validating technical solutions for compliance and performance; identifying risks and proposing mitigation measures; and acting as the main point of contact for external suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related discipline. A minimum of 3 years of senior post-related experience in MEP project management, systems design, installation, and maintenance is required, along with professional certification such as PE (Professional Engineer), Chartered Engineer, PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to perform lifecycle cost analysis and energy efficiency assessments for MEP systems, and must have proficiency in design and drafting tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM software, and other MEP-related programs. Additionally, candidates must possess advanced proficiency in one of NATO's official languages (English/French) and intermediate proficiency in the other.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related discipline. Further postgraduate educational qualifications in relevant fields such as building-services engineering, project management, construction management, energy management, or facilities management would be considered advantageous.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior role related to MEP project management. Candidates with at least 5 years of experience in a senior post related to MEP project management will be given preference. Experience with complex construction projects, particularly in occupied, secure, institutional, headquarters, campus, or large corporate environments, is highly desirable. Familiarity with sustainability certification schemes such as BREEAM, LEED, or equivalent is also advantageous.
Languages: Candidates must have a minimum proficiency level of V (Advanced) in one of NATO's official languages (English or French) and III (Intermediate) in the other. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The successful applicant will be offered a definite duration contract of three years, with the possibility of renewal for up to three additional years, contingent upon the needs of the HQ Adaptation Programme (HQAP) project. This position is specifically required for a limited period to support the HQAP project. Candidates must be nationals of NATO member countries to apply.
