Job Overview:
The position of WFP Director for Team Europe is a senior leadership role within the Partnerships and Innovation (PI) Department of WFP. The primary function of this role is to lead WFP's engagement with external partners, particularly focusing on mobilizing resources from the European Union and its member states. The Director will oversee the Brussels Office and coordinate with WFP’s European Global Offices located in London, Copenhagen, and Berlin. This role requires a strategic approach to partnership engagement, ensuring that WFP's initiatives align with the broader goals of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security and humanitarian assistance. The Director will be responsible for formulating and implementing strategies that enhance WFP's visibility and effectiveness in Europe, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring that WFP's objectives are met through collaborative efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Represent WFP in engagements with EU authorities, the EU Parliament, and other relevant partners.
  • Develop and implement WFP’s partnership engagement strategy tailored to the specific contexts of the EU and wider UN strategies.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with public and private decision-makers to advance WFP’s corporate strategies and attract resources.
  • Promote and deploy corporate initiatives, ensuring alignment with WFP’s partnership engagement.
  • Disseminate WFP analyses and innovations to enhance brand awareness and inform policy dialogue.
  • Contribute to a network of WFP Global Office Directors, providing insights on trends and risks to facilitate integrated solutions to hunger.
  • Propose strategies for senior staff engagement to enhance technical dialogue and political outreach.
  • Ensure effective people management and staff development within the Brussels Office and European Global Offices.
  • Uphold standards and processes within the Office, ensuring best practices and high performance. 1
  • Lead the implementation of evaluation, audit, and compliance recommendations. 1
  • Promote health and wellbeing in the workplace, mitigating risks related to stress and safety. 1
  • Foster a safe work environment free from abusive conduct and discrimination. 1
  • Incorporate gender perspectives in all areas of work. 1
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Political Science, Economics, Law, International Development/Relations, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional relevant experience and/or advanced training may be considered. Candidates should have at least fifteen years of senior-level experience in partnerships, fundraising, and advocacy, with a minimum of six years working internationally or with international organizations. Proven experience in leading strategic partnerships with EU authorities and member states is essential, along with a strong network within the European Union and the ability to influence stakeholders in large forums.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Political Science, Economics, Law, or International Development/Relations is required. A first university degree may be acceptable if accompanied by significant relevant experience and training.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of fifteen years of senior-level experience, including at least six years in international settings or with international organizations. Experience in leading partnerships and advocacy efforts, particularly with the European Union, is crucial. The ability to manage multicultural teams and improve performance is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) is required. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, or Portuguese is desirable, as these are working languages of WFP.
