Job Overview:
The Regional Gender Statistics Specialist will oversee the implementation of the Women Count initiative at the regional level, providing technical leadership and capacity development services to regional and national partners. This role involves advising senior leadership on strategic engagement, building partnerships, and advocating for better gender data. The specialist will lead knowledge generation in gender statistics and SDG monitoring, ensuring that the implementation of the Women Count initiative aligns with quality standards and national priorities. The position requires a strong focus on increasing the availability and accessibility of gender statistics to strengthen demand for their production and use.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will manage and oversee the implementation of the Women Count initiative, ensuring timely and comprehensive execution of regional projects. Responsibilities include planning regional activities, aligning projects with national priorities, managing programmatic and administrative aspects, overseeing monitoring reports, and ensuring efficient resource utilization. The specialist will provide targeted knowledge and capacity development services, lead the establishment of UN Women’s statistical strategy, produce guidance notes and methodologies, and facilitate knowledge sharing among UN Women offices and partners. Additionally, the role involves developing partnerships with governments, donors, and civil society organizations, promoting gender data use, and leading resource mobilization efforts to support the initiative.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in statistics, demography, or economics. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires at least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in gender statistics, experience in gender equality programming, and familiarity with the UN system. Strong leadership skills, knowledge of UN intergovernmental processes, and excellent communication skills are essential. Proficiency in using office software and web-based management systems is also required.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as statistics, demography, or economics is required for this position. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in statistical analysis and gender-related issues, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to perform effectively in this role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in the field of gender statistics. Candidates should have experience in gender equality and women's empowerment programming, as well as experience working within the UN system. Leadership experience in managing personnel in international settings is essential, along with proficiency in using computers and office software packages. Familiarity with web-based management systems and experience in the Arab States region are desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French or Arabic, is considered desirable and would enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse work environment.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time role with supervisory responsibilities over a team of six, including two direct reports and matrix management of four country office staff. The incumbent will be expected to adhere to UN Women’s policies and procedures, including a zero-tolerance policy on misconduct.
